Not worth the money or the drive anymoreā¦Iāve given the course multiple tries, at some points, steady business and I just hate to say Iāll never be going back⦠I used to play this course weekly but over the last 2 years (2023-present) it has just steadily been in decline and in some form of disrepair but a friend recently recommended the course so I figured Iād give it one last shotā¦so hereās the honest reviewā¦
Initially, about 2 yrs ago (early to mid ā23), the greens all started to die and become infested with this black algae looking crust. The management and groundskeeping team never could seem to get them to recover and it honestly just seemed like nobody on staff knew what to do, or how to fix them so they stayed dead and crusty for a whileā¦
Around the beginning of 2024, the course purchased all new carts, and with new carts came higher green fees, higher membership fees and an all new cart feeā¦for a still less than mediocre course that has not really changed or improved at all. At that time, most of the greens and most of the tee boxes were still either dead or dying.
Fast forward after about 6 months or so in mid June (2024) we visited the course again, hoping for improved conditions and were honestly shocked to find still, mostly dead greens and dying tee boxes with an 18 green area under repair for drainage issuesā¦Soā¦give it another 6 months or so to allow for growth and repairā¦
Today, I paid $50+ for 2 HotDeal tee times (separate bookings, booked at separate times, separate confirmation numbers, each for 1 player) so that I could have two carts, bc my 2 yr old son was riding with meā¦Get to check in and Iām charged $35 for an additional rider, regardless of the fact both of my HotDeals include a cart (not a seat on a cart). Called GolfNow to get clarity, and was told, yes separate HotDeals include separate cartsā¦GN calls the club. Club representative lied and said I REQUESTED the additional cart after I was already provided 2 carts which didnāt even make senseā¦why would I pay for 3 carts???ā¦Course rep meant 3 seats and they didnāt want to clarify they were charging me for a riderā¦
The course was not busy at all, I think me and my playing partner MIGHT have been 2 of 10 people playing this morning. Still, was a little shocked when I was charged for another rider after the prepaid tee times include a cartā¦definitely thought they could have been more understanding since I paid for two tee times and they were slowā¦
Anyways, moving on, start playing and we notice the greens have recently been fertilized, sprayed, something, but notice some were actually repaired from being re-sodded. Itās still very fresh and they have a long way to go before the repair isnāt obvious. Kudos for finally getting around to itā¦However, I guess they forgot courses had tee boxes, bc now that the greens are finally being repaired, most of the tee boxes are dead, dying or just down to dirtā¦
Ultimately, the price is steadily increasing for a course that is steadily decreasing. One thing gets fixed and another suffers. Old carts had GPS, and range screens, new carts donāt. Railroad ties around tee boxes are deteriorated or rotted away, tee boxes are steadily dyingā¦One canāt help but wonder, with the price hikes across the boardā¦where is the money going??? Bc itās definitely not going back into the course. Sapelo Hammock GC used to be a hidden coastal gem and could compete with some of the nicer courses in the area but Iām afraid those days are long gone and the courseās days are numberedā¦There are plenty of other courses in the area that are comparatively priced to SH GC with much...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe played here on a Wednesday in the middle of March. The conditions were pretty good considering the rough winter the south east experienced. I think it's safe to say most people on this course you meet will also be active members/owners. Everyone was friendly and proud to discuss their course, as they should be. We played as a twosome and 2 separate groups of four were more than happy to let us play through on the front 9. The back 9 we didn't see another golfer at all. I give 4 stars and not 5 because we had 2 small complaints.... 1) the awesome par 3 over the marsh on the front 9 had a crew of workers repairing the wooden bridge. One guy was out in the marsh in waders (looked like cutting back brush). The tee shot required a shot right over this guy. It was clear he wasn't moving. 2) there is no map or any indication anywhere what each hole does. If this is your home course, it's not an issue. For us playing here once on vacation, we didn't know what shot the hole called for until after we drove down the fairway to hit our second shot. Just a simple sketch on the scorecard would really have helped. I'd definitely recommend this course and encourage anyone to check out the clubhouse and other amenities they offer (like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCourse has its up and down.. times it's looks great and times it could used some TLC.. the price has increase in past year and It don't justify the price hike when the green are not in the best shape. And have patches. I been coming here for past 3 yrs. When I ask for the price I was shock that it went up. So I ask for military discount. And they gave me 1 dallor off. I paid 54 dallors. So disappointed with price hike and course shape doesn't meet the criteria for price hike.. and there discount for military is a joke.. I'm not asking for nothing free... but cmon.. price goes up and the course is not on better shape... and you still charge me 54 dallors... There no ranger on course ether to regulate pace of play.. I has couple In. Front of me and if I can play thru cause I was stuck behind them for 5 holes and they n3ver even offer ... 5 holes hr half unacceptable .
P.s. the course is a hidden gem and I do like it. But it's a hidden gem for new people that come here or passing thru. When u play the course 4 times a month and things change and for the better or worst the price should reflect the course shape and not pay more than we used when the course has not gotten better.. just lil...
