I played this course with three colleagues while we were down in SSI for a conference. Short of 4 pretty cool holes on the back 9 that play along the marsh, this course was extremely disappointing. When we arrived at 7:30AM on a Thursday morning for our tee time, the range was "closed" because they were mowing it. I'm sorry, but when you have paying customers who want to hit a few balls before their $125.00 round, you STOP mowing and let them warm up. The greens had also been aerated (no disclaimer was provided when booking the tee time), and some sort of fertilizer had recently been applied that turned balls, towels, hands, and clothing a nasty shade of turquoise (it took two days to wash off my hands). I get that these are things that have to be done to maintain the course, but when no warning is given at the time of booking and no discount is offered to compensate for the inconvenience, the least you could do is apologize. No such luck here. I guess you can get away with this type of arrogance when you're one of the few public tracks in the area. Needless to say, I won't be returning here.
Also, we drove 30 minutes down to Jekyll to play one of the courses there the following day. It was half the price, and a MUCH...
Read moreThis has always been one of my favorite courses on st Simon’s. I go there quite a bit since I live just three hours and it’s a popular spot for my friends and family since we know the island so well. This weekend was my 21st birthday and me and my buddies took a trip down there to play golf and enjoy going out and be at the beach. On Saturday we played and on the first tee the ranger asks me what my tee time was like a Normal question. However he says this right next to a guy in his backswing and I responded with “one second sir” as I pointed to the guy mid swing who then put down a second ball soon after. Me and my 3 friends hit our shots and as we put our clubs up the ranger goes “just some advice, don’t ever tell me or a ranger to ever be quite” from that the round was off to a bad start. I will never play here again after this. If you are on the island and can’t play at sea island I highly recommend sea palms over this. The fairways and green are so pure and it’s even a little cheaper and to me a much more fun course. Very disappointed in king and prince since I’ve played her...
Read morePlayed there last Thursday with a group of people. The course was in great condition and is very scenic, but man was it tough! We got a discount for staying at the hotel which was nice. I probably would have still paid the $125 or whatever it was. Practice facility was great and greens were rolling nicely. A little slow but very true in my opinion. Pace of play was fine.
Plus: The hotdog/aka pork missile was probably one of the best I’ve ever had at the turn. Do yourself a favor and shake off that front nine with a cold beer and dog.
Cons: The horseflies are seriously bad out there. Nothing the course can do but very distracting when trying to swing. Bring bug spray!! Also, no one was at the bar until 9am which sucked because we had an early tee time. Couldn’t get any drinks...
