On January 30th, 2023 I called the office of habitat for humanity in Vero Beach after looking on line for a donation pick up. I was unsatisfied with the online service for pick up. It showed me that to have a donation pick up service for habitat for humanity was going to charge me for items I was going to donate! So I called and spoke with Elba who then told me you don't do donation pick ups that I had to call the store for that information. She was not helpful at all. So I then called the store and spoke with Loralee and she then scheduled February 9th after I told her what three items we had. Three items were a down feathered sectional couch, dining room table and a queen bed. On February 8th I called Loralee to see what time they were coming and was told between 9am and 12pm. I got a phone call around 10:00 am and a gentleman from habitat said they were on their way. When they got to our house they decided they could only take the dining room table and the box spring from bed! Now I wasn't told they may or may not take anything, I was under the impression that they were taking all of the items. If I had any idea that you're company wouldn't take these items I wouldn't have gone this route. We had a trailer a week ago but not now. How am I supposed to move these large items now? This is the most inconvenient and inconsiderate position to put a family in. We were donating these items out of good faith and the yahoos that you're company sent over decide that our donation wasn't "good" enough! That couch we were donating was a $4000.00...
Read morePrices have gone way up - still some good finds but a lot of stuff being priced via eBay - not what it sold for on eBay, but what people are asking on eBay. If I’m going to pay eBay prices, I’m going to just buy exactly what I want on eBay. Lots of the overpriced items end up going on “manager special” because nobody in their right mind is paying 10k for a dining table - unless it’s exactly what they want. They had a sofa for $3000, a chair for $500, “mid century modern” dresser for $500 - Pricing scheme does give you a chance to get 75% off, but that’s usually even more than it’s worth on the secondary market and that takes 3 months. With Design Within Reach outlet charging less for Kartel, Knoll, and Herman Miller it doesn’t make sense to buy used. Most of the staff is kind and courteous but I feel there are a few misguided individuals but a lot of really great people just donating their time . Thrift should be about selling volume not individual items and building up a huge backlog of stuff nobody wants. They also list higher ticket items on eBay, which takes away from...
Read moreBe careful with freezers/refrigerators. I purchased a freezer, when purchasing it I saw that it was damaged. I asked to have the price reduced it was $500. They refuse to do so, they claimed that a brand new one was 1000 at Home Depot to make a long story short. I brought the freezer home. It did not fully shut which caused water damage. And food to go bad I called and they said they would pick up the freezer from 9 to 12 AM on a Friday. They showed up one hour prior. They refused to come back. They rescheduled me for Monday pickup Be Extremely cautious the customer service is so poor !! They still have not picked up the freezer.and I still have not been reimbursed for this damaged item. And not to mention a freezer the same size at Home Depot or Lowe’s is only $600-$700 brand new delivered to your house I was really under the impression that Habitat for Humanity was established to help families rebuild their lives. It honestly just looks like they’re in the business of just making money and not really helping families especially in times like this....
