Oh, boy, what to say, what to say. Okay, so, while I've never been admitted here personally, I have been to the ER for myself. On the other hand, my mom has some health conditions and has had to be admitted as an inpatient from the ER enough times. From putting all my experiences together I have of Glen Oaks hospital, I wish there was an option for no stars or half a star. While there are some very nice doctors & nurses, sadly and unfortunately, the bad definitely outweighs the good. Without getting top personal, I've had one too many run-ins with nurses being very unprofessional, disrespectful, distasteful & down right rude to my face by saying nasty comments, dirty looks & talking smack about me, my family & other patients. One time when my mom was admitted for a week, they discharged here while she was more or less "a ticking time bomb". They did their tests, scans etc while she was admitted and didn't even mention to us she had lung cancer. We only found out because about 2 months after being discharged we went to her primary doctor for a follow up and he told us she had an area on the lower right lobe of her right lung. All while her papers from Glen Oaks the Dr even noted this but did not even bother to tell us. Like I said, we found out 2 months later. Thankfully our primary dr that's been in our family since I was 2yrs old had caught it which basically saved her life. Also, this isn't the first thing that Glen Oaks missed that could have had bad detrimental outcomes. We only started going to Glen Oaks because it's closer to us when we moved to Glendale Heights. Before we'd go to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. All and all, avoid Glen Oaks Hospital! If possible go to Central DuPage Hospital! Which is what we do now whenever possible. To anyone who dares to brave the waters, lies etc of Glen Oaks, I wish you luck LOL. Just beware đ¨đł I also wanted to add that the nurse who is the nurse manager for patients when they're on the admitted floors by the name of Patricia is quite rude. She's actually made my mom feel so uncomfortable that my mom signed out AMA and up and left with a busted ankle and broken fibula. My brother and I took her to a different hospital where they were so nice and accommodating. While also telling us that they heard bad stories from patients about Glen Oaks Hospital. My mom successfully had her surgery at this other hospital. Heck, at Glen Oaks when my mom was in ICU cause of her busted ankle, the ICU nurse even told her that if it was her own mother, she wouldn't feel comfortable with Glen Oaks doing the surgery. Like hello, red flag much! Let's not forget that my mom's Fentanyl patches would go missing off her body while she was at Glen Oaks. It's one of her normal at home medications so naturally the hospital tries to keep patients on their normal medications. When I've been there visiting, I make sure they have her current medication list etc and that she gets her patch. After visiting hours, I leave and come back the next day to discover that her patch is off her and a piece of medical tape is put in its place. Each time her patch is changed I make sure they write the time and date so id know when to change it next at home for her, well EVERY time they give her one, someone always ends up taking it off her and putting a new piece of medical with no time or date on it. I tell my mom it's not on her and she tells me that a tech was pushing her to change her bedding or trying to take it off her making my mom think there's something hanging off her. Mind you my mom went into the ER and was admitted because she was very sick and was out of it,so these techs or nurses got away with whatever. Each time this happened for a total of 4 times I had to basically fight with them to make sure she got a new one. So be warned and keep in mind that some techs or nurses have a drug addiction issue and steal patients pain medication. Please make sure that your loved one gets their correct pain meds and correct meds in general. You can ask to see the packaging that the pills...
Read moreMy daughter admitted herself last Wednesday severe depression and a danger to herself. I was one of the contacts listed (her mother) yet didn't receive a call from the psychiatrist till Saturday. I was informed he was diagnosing her with borderline personality disorder and bipolar. Was referring her to Timberline Knolls as she needed extensive DBT in patient care. Monday there discharge lady Sylvia called telling me my daughter had to be discharged. When I told her that is not possible , that the psych stated he would not release her that she had to be trasfered. I was informed Due to insurance (Meridian) Timberline knolls does not take that insurance and she doesn't know any other place that does. I had asked her to hold off on discharging and to contact the insurance carrier. She claimed she had. It was a lie. I myself contacted Meridian and they did have residential facilities available that handled diagnosis and could provide DBT. I even called and left messages on Sylvia's vm providing other facility names. Tuesday I never received a call from Sylvia (although I had left several messages) They forced my daughter to be discharged... I had to find out from my daughters boyfriend. Instead of calling me back, they called the next contact name. My daughter requested more days to be inside. Was told NO they couldn't do it due to insurance problems.
After they discharged her and I found out. They refused to speak to me. I left messages everywhere I could. I even spoke to the patient liason from amita corporate in which he gave me the run around claiming - now that she was out- she needed to sign a consent for them to speak to me again......
Upon discharging my daughter - the pscyiatrist did take off that borderline personality disorder...which i find interesting. How is it 2 days prior he said she needed extensive in residential treatment.... to finding out timberline knolls didn't take insurance...to now stating no longer borderline personality and could be immediately discharged...and no longer a threat.....
I have found out from my daughter - they forced her discharge as "a medical insurance problem" they refused to find her adequate care. They failed to effectively communicate. I was also infromed everyone who entered was forced out within 5 days.
When I spoke to sylvia the discharge cordinator on Monday - her exact words to me was " This happens all the time" We do not have anyone to send them to that takes Meridian"....
Which tells me more patients than not are being released or discharged before they are actually "ready" and safe to be discharged.
My daughter is now being re-admitted into another in patient facilty OUTSIDE of AMITA mental health. Because I have a feeling they are all running the same way.
I would love to file a class action suit against AMITA Mental Health Facilities. However due to hippa regulations I need more proof malpractice has happened to other patients. The following is a list that meets critera, if you recognise any of the above. From the looks of the reviews below, my daughters treatment is common. This is unacceptable and should not be tolerated! Please contact me and lets work together to have them be held accountable. I am on Facebook. I have messenger on there as well and can readily communicate with anyone this has happened to. My name is Lorna FitzHenry
Refusal to care Failure to communicate effectively Failure to protect or warn 3rd parties (such as family members) Mistakes make in consultation and or referral Premature discharge Disregarding or not taking appropriate patient history Failure to recognise symptoms Failure to order proper testing Failure to diagnose or disdiagnosis Was there any (not listed above) violations taken that jeopardized you from receiving the standard of care you should of received? Did a injury occur due to negligence? If so did that injury result in significant changes or...
Read moreI had to go there because I went by ambulance. CHD is my hospital but the boundry where I livevsays the Ambulance has to go to Amita. Many doctors there were unprofessional and down right rude. They could not work as team for my multiple issues. Gave me the wrong meds and almost killed me. Possibly due to negligence and the inability to work as a team my toe was amputated. And that was the least of my worries.that surgeon was great and said absolutely nobody could touch that foot post op.The equipmemt was old and unfunctioning. My dialysis machine broke and flooded the room . Intensive care and cardiac care units staff was good but I rarely was barhed nor offered help cleaning up brushing my teetch etc.. The ER staff was excellent and kind and knowledgable. On the floor, the PCT staff was so short staffed and rude and incompetent. They did not follow procedures of care. I thought I was in Hell. Finally escaped to CDH where they corrected all Amitas mistakes and saved my life. A cardiologist who was assigned my care at Amita wouldn"t return calls to the MY CDH doctors. He fought with the other teams. His way or no way and he turned out to be the worst one. My kidney doctor was and is great I have him through CHD. . My podiatrist surgeon great and protected my vascular care as well as the interventional vascular team. Routine house doctor is ineffective especially with complex cases. I did see a nursing supervisory person who visited daily doing surveys. What a joke. AMITA did masses of unnecessary tests many from outside facilities and the lab once took 6 days cause they had to job out even some lab tests.and procedures. Did not even interrupt my EKG Correctly as they kept giving me med that made it worse. I was disrespected as a senior and as a human being.Perhaps Advent will fix it. Who knows. I have a legal document stating I refuse transport to that facility. Oh and PS the night Amita transported me to my short term rehab the place the transport took was closed!!!!( For admits) no staff for that. The EMTs took me to my room and tucked me in with the help of an aid and that was that til morning after an explanation that Amita shouldnt have sent me. They couldn't send me back cause my room was already filled. All my orders lay on a desk somewhere for the am crew. Amazing. I worked in help care all my career and was totally in disbelief. Only though God's grace I survive. Amita and all associated should be bought up on malpractice. My opinion my experience but there are MANY out there that...
