Salt River Canyon — Local services in Globe

If you need to get out of the house for a leisurely drive, this is a pretty place to do it. Lots of lovely desert scenery with the river and mountain valley. There’s a big turnout north of the river called Becker Butte Lookout that I never noticed had a plaque until we stopped to snoop over the edge. There are smaller turnout or unofficial stopping spots to look around. There used to be a terrific little rest stop with a bathroom right at the river bridge, with lovely views under the bridge. Not sure why they closed the whole area and cut off the little walking path and parking lot. I’m hoping they reopen it...

This really was not quite as scenic as I was thinking it would be. We drove from Phoenix and the most beautiful part was the stretch through the mountain canyon between Superior and Globe. This wasn’t really worth the trip. We had planned to continue on to Show Low but decided to cut our losses...
