Nichols Candies Inc — Local services in Gloucester

Been to Nichols twice. Never again. First time I felt the inside help cared little that I was there and weren’t too enthusiastic to introduce me to their variety. But I bought some candy and rate it a 3 out of 5. Chalked it up to a one time thing. Went back yesterday for some Christmas candy for my wife’s stocking. There was a line outside but no one going in. When they came out to speak with next in line we tried to ask for clarification. We Got a finger waive response to wait a moment. When they finished speaking with the customer they ignored us, turned around and closed the door. Thankfully a customer filled us in. Phone orders only. I then tried calling. Between yesterday and today, at least 15 times. I kept trying because their website provides a number for phone order and pick up. But all I got were busy signals. After repeated attempts it became clear the Phone was apparently taken off the hook rather than provide a recorded explanation for customers. Just a busy signal. Nothing on their website about no longer taking orders just a prominently displayed phone number to call for pick up orders. Thankfully there is another candy store...

We had a great time visiting. It's well worth the trip, their chocolate & candy is delicious! There is a HUGE selection of candy, chocolates, fudge and more, here, I was pleasantly surprised! Plenty of chocolates to choose from, something for everyone, dark, milk, white, with and without nuts, caramel, crispy, peanut butter, nougat, and way more still...sugarfeee chocolate, etc.... and you can buy small amounts, per piece or per pound. An employee helped us selecting what we wanted and she kindly answered each question we had. Very knowledgable and helped us. They also have prepackaged bags to grab & go too. We bought some homemade maple chunks that dissolve a bit once you start eating them and wow, very nice, I've never tried anything like it before, they were so good. We could see some candy being made in the next room through the glass which was nice. Also, they have specialized chocolate bars for occasions which was cool to see. We stopped in on our way to the beach and it was easy to continue on our way right after. I'm definitely looking forward...

Can’t even describe how rude the woman on the phone was when I called, this place has been a family tradition for us for four generations now, and I’m heartbroken to see that tradition end today because they refuse to stand by their own mistakes and told me specifically “too bad, deal with it”. They sent entirely the wrong product, refuse to acknowledge the website was purposely misleading (no picture and misleading description), and refused to accept responsibility for not sending a tracking number even though it’s being sent to a hot climate and we requested one several times over a week. To see a family tradition not only end, but end so horrifically because someone decided to be not only unbelievably rude, but also so belligerent to refuse to help or take fault, disgusting puts it mildly. Also, what a way to celebrate a birthday with a massive screw up of a very expensive (now trash) gift. Thanks Nichol’s, we’ll miss the memory of you, but certainly not what...
