This is a special place for camping, watching the John Day river flow by, hiking, biking, and seeing wildlife. Yes there are rattlesnakes as well and I've seen them too. Spring desert flowers are brilliant and the smallmouth fishing in the river is decent. Breathtaking basalt cliffs, often adorned by mountain sheep with their amazing curled horns, surround the campground. Elk, deer, and the occasional rabbit can also be seen.
