Food Lion — Local services in Goldsboro

Not the best or friendliest Food Lion around. I used to live across the street from it decades ago and it was a great place to go. I now only go when I pass it on the way to visiting my mother.

I have seen management yell at customers for being "stupid" for standing in a line after a light gets turned off. I am not referring to they got into the line after the light was turned off. I mean they were already there. The old man only had two items and an "assistant manager" turned off a cashier's light so her drawer could be counted down. She proceeded to berate everyone in that line to get out of line and go to the only register open. This was a year ago, so not sure if she still works there. If she does, management needs to wear a uniform instead of casual clothing with a name tag.

Cashiers always act like life is horrible, as over the past five years I have not been there to see a smiling or welcoming face at the register or on the floor. And on the subject of "on the floor", trying to get help finding something is pointless. With remarks like "it's over there" or "every aisle has signs" it's not the best way to ensure return business. There are other Food Lion stores around that are far better than this one. The few in downtown Goldsboro have much better customer service, even though they are run down.

The great prices is the only reason keeping it from a one star review. If you want to go to Food Lion while living in Goldsboro area; Mar Mac, Ash St, LaGrange are far better examples of great...

This Food Lion is SO much better than the location on Ash St. The parking lot is less crowded even when the store is busy and there are always check out lanes open. I hardly ever have to wait in a long line to get checked out which means I can get in, get what I need, and leave within a reasonable amount of time. The store is bigger and the layout makes things so much easier to find. The meat counter is well stocked and all the diary items are behind closed doors which I feel makes them a little bit fresher as they're not exposed to temperature changes. The employees are friendly as I almost always see them assisting customers whether it be during check out or on the sales floor. The building is always clean as I have yet to experience the store being dirty or unkept. Also this store has free Wifi and the other location does not. This means a lot when you need to look up ingredients for a recipe or use an app that aids in the shopping experience. I love this Food Lion. I usually order online and pick up at the store because it keeps me from overbuying (and I HATE grocery shopping) and the shoppers at this store are great! They are always polite and do their best to make reasonable substitutions. I've asked them to add an item or make a cheaper substitution in the messages and they've always been friendly and accommodating (and I make sure not to spam them or ask for too much). Overall, I now prefer to shop at this Food Lion over Walmart because of the customer service. They might be slightly higher on some prices, but it really evens out when you consider specials, coupons, and MVP deals. And you're getting better products.
