A Hidden Gem of a Community Center We are renting this Grange Hall for a large event with family and friends. And were surprised that few others knew of it. The building is nicely maintained in the style of decades ago, giving you almost a 50's or 60's feel to your event. The great big kitchen will allow your team of friends to cook for over 50 people.
Upstairs is a very large dance hall, complete with a stage... apparently the acoustics admirable for bands due the the rounded corners of the ceiling.
The folks who run the White Rock Grange Hall are incredibly friendly and helpful. They are not only open to leasing the space out for events but, even better, for more members to its organization.
Per the Maine Grange Hall's pamphlet: "The Grange is the nation's oldest national agricultural organization, with grassroots units established in 2700 local communities in 37 states. Its 100,000 members provide service to agricultural and rural areas on a wide variety of issues including economic development, education, family endeavors, and legislation designed to assure a strong and viable rural America. The Grange was formed in 1867 following the American Civil War to unite private citizens in improving the economic and social position of the nation's farm population. Over the years, it has evolved to include non-farm rural families and communities.
The Grange is also a fraternal organization with the official name being the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, hence the "P of H" on the logo. Founding members determined that a fraternal organization would best be able to combine loyalty and democratic ideas to provide service to others. The National Grange was one of the first formal groups to admit women to membership on an equal basis with men.
