Got what I asked for but, at what price?
Disclaimer: this is my first time in a car repair shop in the US, I had only gone to dealer shops and I am a foreigner. My opinion is based on the experience I had in the shop and also on the information I could gather from Google looking for prices around the area and such. I know basic to intermediate car fixing since I had been fixing cars of mine and familiars for years, but in my current situation I am not able to do ANY type of car work where I currently live in.
My car broke down and I took it there after looking at all the reviews and services since it looked too good to be true. They fixed it really fast, in that regard, no complaints, amazing.
The weird stuff comes later, the car was fixed without my consent, it was a really small fix so it made sense. What did not make sense was the price tag... you could say "they are charging not for tightening the nut, but because they know which one and how" and that's ok but here is the problem:
They first told me how much time they were charging me on diagnosis (and honestly felt like they pumped the time for the type of issue) and later they changed the hours and pumped it even more. Take into account they had already fixed it.
Ok I can live with that, it happens.
But now they drop a labor rate that not even the dealers charged me with, I had as a reference the labor rate on kia Burlington and Google so I had a good idea on how much would be reasonable and I was surprised at the rate not even what doctors charge for... but what could I do? They had already fixed the car... and again, I'm a foreigner, I am still getting to know how people manage around here.
Before that I was quoted a service to the car and they gave me a heinous price, I thought "these guys are going to wash the car, wax it, give me a massage and read me a book for the price".
After looking at the quote I was surprised that the price of the materials almost doubled the price I would find in other shops, they tried to convince me into it but honestly it's not worthy, at least not for me since just doing a service would have cost me one sixth of the car value. Outrageous.
I know what type of parts the car needs and what would have been needed to diagnose and run the service on it and from my basic to intermediate knowledge, I know it's nowhere near the price tag they were giving me.
I just took the bullet, paid without any complaint and walked away swearing I am never going back.
I was going to 1 star but since they found the issue I am giving 2.
Felt scammed and them smiling while doing it did not make...
Read moreI took my car to Luis Auto Repair because the shifter of my Volvo was locking. When I picked my car up, the radio dashboard was broken, a service light that was not on before I took my car there was on, and although working, the shifter didn't feel safe. The next day my car didn't turn on. A neighbor checked and it seemed like the battery (which wasn't that old) had died, my neighbor jumped started my car and the car turned on but the shifter was locked. My neighbor helped me temporarily unlock the shifter and I took it back to Luis Auto Repair. When I picked up the car the second time, the shifter was working better, but apparently I needed a new battery, so they changed and charged me for a new battery too; and they told me that they had ordered the radio dash that they broke and that they would call me when it arrived. They took a long time to call so I called them. Apparently they received the wrong part and were still waiting for another one. It took months for them to repair the radio dash that they broke. Today I went to pick my car up and yet another different service light was on! When I told them, they told me that that light was already on when I brought the car, which is not true. I got so upset that I took my car and took it to the shop that services the oil of my car to check on that light that was on because I’ve been taking it there for years and they know my car. They told me that when the mechanic takes a dash out and installs a new one it could anciently mess with the sensors or even mess them up. Sadly, instead of taking responsibility, the mechanic said that it was already like that when I brought my car, which is not true. So I just don’t trust the people that work at Luis Auto Shop. They don’t seem to have a master mechanic supervising the work that the mechanics do from start to finish. I am very disappointed with Luis Auto...
Read moreWas buying a used truck was told a specific issue was needing serviced by previous owner so I dropped off truck for a second diagnostic with Luis. This guy called me and tried to charge me $240 for diagnostic and said he wanted to replace coolant system to test the pressure in heads. I asked why would I pay for a repair of something that you don't know will fix the problem? And definitely not paying for a diagnostic (more then dealership charge) when you still aren't telling me what's wrong with the truck. It starts so you can perform any test necessary. Long story short I contacted the dealership and they also said his diagnostic process was not right and if I wanted to know what was wrong with truck to bring it there and I'd be charged $189.. so for $50 less plus $3k that Luis wanted me to pay him for a service before he knew what was wrong I would know the extent of service the truck actually needed. I had to argue with this guy also with certified dealership tech on the phone explaining he was wrong and I wasn't about to be ripped off. Either we go to court or I take my truck then. A day later the dealership calls me and informs me it's 2 bad heads as well as coolant system. So I'm better off not getting the truck smh. This Luis shop was about to milk me to death replacing everything until I was double the cost of just replacing engine! Be wary of this shop! Overcharge and improper...
