Initially I was pleased with Dave and the guys at Toddy’s and how friendly they were, willing to work with me on payments. But, even in the beginning I noticed Dave didn’t like to give estimates — for both cost and the amount of time it would take to fix my car, which had a check engine light on and it was running rough. Then, I noticed Dave wouldn’t call with updates. I had to be the one to call everyday and some days he wouldn’t have even touched my car. If the guys come across an issue, they will pivot to a car they can fix faster. I got several sob stories about how he and his wife “were going to have to figure out how to pay for parts,” and I noticed a lot of customers were paying him up front for work. He would also buy used parts off of eBay from god knows who, without any kind of guarantee on them. That’s no way to run a business. The mechanics would also sit in front of Dave’s computer and watch YouTube videos on how to make repairs. Again, they appear to mean well, but are working above their skills set and don’t have the proper work space or tools to do the work. Very disappointing.
UPDATE: Since the guys at Toddy's were in over their heads with my 2020 Kia Soul, I paid $200 to have it towed to another shop to get the engine fixed. Once it gets to the shop, I find out Toddy's left the car as is. The engine was open, bolts everywhere, the spark plugs gone. Real professional. But, Dave -- a professed Christian man -- knew what he was doing! The other shop declined to work on it, since it was such a mess and they couldn't make heads or tails of it. So, I paid another $150 to have it towed to the dealership, which is going to cost a fortune, I'm sure. I believe if I were a man, I wouldn't have been treated this way -- but as a single woman new to the area with no family or friends -- Dave knew I'd have to put up with this BS. He really screwed me good and then leaving the engine in pieces was the cherry on the sundae. If I were a man, I'd go punch him in the neck. So, in conclusion -- I wouldn't recommend Toddy's to anyone for any reason -- not even my worst enemy. Not even to put air in a bicycle tire. Avoid them...
Read moreI can’t say enough good things about Toddys Garage in Granville, Illinois. Dave, the owner, is hands down the most honest business owner and mechanic I’ve ever met. His integrity is unmatched—he only fixes what’s actually broken, and if something isn’t clear, he’s upfront about it. No guessing games, no hidden fees, no upselling. Just honesty, every time.
Dave, along with his son-in-law Emanuel and mechanic Phil, are top-tier professionals. They’re skilled, dependable, and genuinely care about doing right by their customers. They’ve worked on my car multiple times, and every time they’ve taken the time to explain the issue, show me the parts being replaced, and walk me through the repair process. I trust them so much, they even keep a key fob to my car—and I live right across the street!
What really sets them apart is their integrity. More than once, they’ve told me a repair could wait and didn’t try to push unnecessary fixes. That kind of honesty is incredibly rare in this industry and means everything to someone who relies on their vehicle daily.
Toddys Garage is exactly what every mechanic shop should strive to be—honest, skilled, affordable, and trustworthy. If you’re anywhere near Granville, this is the only place you should...
