All of my friends were posting photos of the boxes of produce they got from here. The photos of the luscious looking fruits and vegetables made me realize it is time to put down the pandemic hot fudge sundae spoon and get back on nutritional track.
Mecca Family Farms is offering a drive through. They have partnered with Fresh Start Produce Sales, a grower based company in Delray Beach. When you pull up you get a menu of what they have that day, place your order, and then pop the trunk and the workers who are masked and gloved put the boxes in. Payment is cash or Venmo. All boxes are $10. There were maybe 15 cars in front of me and the line went very quickly. You can follow them on Facebook for updates on what they have and recipes so you can use your produce.
All of the vegetables are locally grown. My vegetable box included 2 green bell peppers, 2 poblano peppers, 3 green chili peppers, 3 cubanelles, 3 ears of corn, 2 zucchini, 2 cucumbers, 3 Kirby cucumbers, an eggplant, 5 red tomatoes, 4 yellow tomatoes, a head of iceberg lettuce, and romaine lettuce. You really get a lot for only $10. Some of the things I am going to make are a salad, BLT's, and zucchini bread. The peppers, especially the hot ones are a little more challenging since I don't usually cook with them. If the mangoes from my tree ripen in time I will use the jalapenos for salsa. Maybe I'll make stuffed poblano and green bell peppers. I am taking it as a challenge to find recipes to use the peppers.
The $10 fruit box is usually mixed but they only had blueberries left and they gave you four pints. I use a ton of blueberries so they will go fast. I throw them into my smoothies and if I have enough I have a recipe for blueberry cobbler I have been wanting to make.
There are so many reasons to come and get produce. A portion of sales goes to the Restoration Bridge International, a Lake Worth charity that provides food to the needy in Palm Beach County. You are helping local farms during a time when many of them are having to leave their crops to rot on the vine due to lack of demand. Most of all you are getting a great deal that can spark your cooking creativity and improve your health. There is nothing better tasting than a fresh box of farm fresh...
Read moreThis is where I volunteered for some time for Restoration Bridge International they keep their food cold here. They receive their food here. Sort it out, throw away what needs to be discarded and refrigerate what needs to be and what is dry store away properly. This is a really organized setups and they put away the cold stuff as quickly as possible. You still have to sort the stuff out. They are serving food to the public for donation. You have to just fill out an application when you come and you get your ID card. Which is served at a local church. Right now they are at Church by the Glades in Lake Worth Beach, Florida plus they provide food for several soup kitchens that feed the homeless. Plus a gentleman that brings food to the homeless in John Prince Park comes here. A lot of blessings through out Pastor Dan is an amazing person and his colleagues Daina, Jackie and couple of others couldn't remember everyone's names. They are the backbone to the organized controlling of this place. Plus all the other volunteers that come at the church to help too. It's hard work but so worth it. Doing stuff for Gods people. We are blessed to have such a group right here in Florida. Thanks to the owners of Mecca Farms hope they continue to bless Restoration Bridge...

Saturdays are busier thou, around 30 mins wait maybe. But they are extremely organized and super nice. It's a pleasure to do...
