While I do love the smoked sweet bologna, proceed with caution on the baked goods and deli counter. A few years ago, no gloves were used to handle our deli order which I thought was odd but we experienced no problems thankfully. Now, they sold us a pie which molded the very next morning (we purchased it late the evening before). It was not refrigerated in the store and no signs or employees indicated it needed to be at purchase. When calling the store, simply in good faith, not wanting a refund and only politley notifying them in hopes they'd pull it from their shelf so nobody else got sick, I was confronted with an older woman who was extremely defensive. She was unwilling to understand how it occurred, and placed blame on every other situation but their store. Even saying they don't refrigerate it there because it would dry out? The stories went on and on trying to justify their goods. Eventually, she offered us to come back and get a new slice but that wasn't my intent and I reiterated that to her. She would not identify how they would resolve this issue or that they'd even look into it. Long story short; proceed with caution. If they are unwilling to pull old products off their shelves and are willing to defend their baked goods by telling penicillin and mold stories and "nobody dying from it" back in the day, one must question the safety of all their food. Even if it was a fluke, I hope they resolve their food safety issues and treat customers nicer next time. I normally don't write these negative reviews but God forbid someone gets sick and nothing was said. This store will always be sentimental to me as my PA dutch grandfather frequented it often. I wish them the best but I am unsure if we'll return due to their neglect to seriously consider...
Read moreIf you enjoy smoked meats you won't find a better place anywhere. Fresh-from-the-farm old-fashioned crafted meat of every kind.
They usually have free samples so you can try some of the things you may not be familiar with before purchasing. If you want to try something they will always give you a taste in advance of your purchase. I have found things I never heard of that I really like they're like that.
They have a smoke liverwurst that is unbelievable. They also have pork roll which you probably won't be familiar with unless you are from New York New Jersey or Pennsylvania. There's is very good. I like the Tangier version but it's impossible to find anymore anywhere. ShopRite used to have a tangy that was awesome but they change the recipe that I cannot find one anywhere. Someday I plan to ask dietrich's if they would make me an extra tangy batch and I bet they would if I bought 50 lb.
Quick stop in this place and plan to spend some time they have interesting stuff and will not cheap the prices are reasonable...
Read moreQuality is SIX stars... everything I've had is absolutely wonderful, and I love that it's made by them and not just repackaged from some large plant. It's a little bit pricey, but I can forgive this, because the quality and workmanship are worth it, and they deserve to be paid. My complaints are: the shopping experience is chaos if it's crowded. There's no line, or a way to make one. The employees seem to just take who's standing in front of them, and don't care if it's some pushy Karen or the person who's been standing there watching people get taken in front of them. No deli numbers, no place to line up, just a 30 foot counter, customers standing in the shopping aisles, and a someone yells "who's next?" Second, they don't take cards. Cash only. They will, however point at an ATM across the store, where you pay like $3 (the owner of the ATM is Diedrichs meats) to get money to hand them after you get...
