Guthrie Haunts - Evolving Sets and Room for Improvement
βββ (3/5)
It pains me to give Guthrie Haunts three stars because I really like this attraction, but I feel like it still has some of the same issues year after year. I've had the pleasure of experiencing Guthrie Haunts for four years running, and each visit brings something new and exciting. It's been fascinating to witness their growth, from a word-of-mouth attraction to the presence of KATT radio station this year.
Some noteworthy points:
I want to highlight that Guthrie Haunts has stickers so be cautious of walking in the grass. These small stickers can be a minor inconvenience, as they may stick to your shoes or pants.
Preordering tickets is a time-saver, but it could use clearer signage or explanations about where to go next. It was a bit confusing since they have a special trailer to visit.
This year's addition of numerous vendors offering a retail experience and snack options was a nice touch, even though I didn't make any purchases. I did notice one stand offering beer, which is worth mentioning for those interested.
What I Appreciate:
The sets are revamped annually, featuring distinct themes. Walking through and encountering entirely different scenes from the previous year is always a highlight. Plus, the bonus of a free shirt if you opt for the blood touch pass, provided they haven't run out.
Points for Improvement:
As an admitted scaredy cat in the realm of adult life, I was hoping for a bit more of a fright factor. The level of fear didn't quite match my expectations.
While I appreciate the intention behind the touch pass, I think there's room for more creativity. Perhaps a more dynamic interaction, like a startling yell or a dramatic bloody handprint, could enhance the experience not just rubbing it all over my head and face.
The fast pass option felt underutilized. If patrons are paying extra, they likely expect to be prioritized over regular ticket holders. Streamlining entry for fast pass holders would be a valuable enhancement. I want to make a note that I didn't buy one this year so it could have changed since the last time I bought one.
A Forward-Thinking Suggestion:
Considering a 21+ night could be an intriguing experiment. Allowing actors to push boundaries with more intense and adult-themed interactions could provide a unique experience. Of course, this would require careful planning, clear liability measures, and a trial run with a smaller group. I'd be happy to offer further suggestions if you decide to explore this idea.
Overall, Guthrie Haunts continues to be an enjoyable experience, and with a few tweaks, it could reach even...
Β Β Β Read moreThe only reason I am giving this two stars is because the carnival area had impressive acts. The way the ticket system is ran does leave a bit to be desired. Upon entering, you receive a ticket with a color on it. You can only get in line to enter the haunted house when your color has been selected. After waiting for over an hour, I asked the girl who was in charge of the colors what the order was. She wouldn't tell me. The carnival is nice and all, but it doesn't take an hour to see everything. I wanted to know when our color was going to be posted because we were debating on weather of not we wanted to leave. I have dust allergies. It was very dry, and dust was everywhere. Our clothes were covered in dust when we left. It finally got to the point that we decided to not worry about the money we spent on the tickets, and just leave because I was having trouble breathing. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I love all things haunted, so that decision was not made easily. I'm not sure how they determine what color you get when you arrive, but we saw people who arrived after we did who were able to get in line before we did. They had colors that were called before ours. They didn't have any of the "special" tickets that cost more to cut in line. I know Halloween is a cash grab, so why not try to maximize the amount of cash you can grab by having your customers stuck at a carnival buying food/drinks while waiting two or three hours just to get in line? There has to be a better way. I never got to see the haunted house. And most likely never will, as I doubt I will go back with their...

Nothing usually gets my husband, but Guthrie heights got my husband twice once in the turning portal tube thing and the second time was with the earthquake shaking floor! The reason why they got only four stars was due to they have vendors in the open area that you wait in prior to going in, but when you buy things they give you a hard time going back in to get them! Why make the vendors hold on to them if you are going to get people a hard time to go back in and get their items? This was not well planned out on Guthrie Haunt's part. They should have an entrance with a security guard near the vendors that can either allow the vendor to bring the items to the fence for their customers or go get the items themselves. There were a lot of security guards just standing around honestly. I understand it was an opening night and it wasn't that busy since it was still September, but I hope you have this figured out before it actually gets busy or you will be in a wreck and getting bad reviews because your vendors can't get their items to their customers. And why would you have food vendors there when you can't bring anything into the haunted area? The vendors should be outside the fence, duh! This was a week four stars and they technically should have gotten three, but because the haunt was so good that earned them back the...
