My friends and I spent last weekend fishing with Brian Hanchey and Louisiana Backwater Charters and had an absolute blast. The accommodations, meals and fishing were all first rate.

Brian's new guest house is a spacious, four bedroom four bath cabin that has a large, state of the art kitchen that's open to both the living and dining areas. The cabin also has plenty of outdoor space in which to relax. The camp also includes a bunk room and screened in porch as part of the boathouse. There's also a lighted dock for night fishing.

The fishing was absolutely incredible all weekend. Both days, Brian, along with his two guides, Randy and Devon, put us on huge schools of Speckled Trout and Redfish. It was the kind of fishing where you would have long stretches of getting a bite on nearly every cast that you made. I did have to teach Randy a thing or two about the effectiveness of free-lining a shrimp and bouncing it off the bottom to attract trout, as opposed to using a popping cork, but he eventually came around to it being an acceptable strategy after I landed a half dozen trout in ten minutes using that technique. 😉 We limited out each day and returned home with 400 Spec and Redfish fillets. Primo fishing.

Lastly, I would be remiss not to mention the delicious food that Brian's cook, Susy, prepared for us. She made a full breakfast including biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage and hash brown casserole one day and incredible King's Hawaiian ham, egg and cheese sliders the next. She also packed tasty sandwiches for lunch, but her dinners stole the show. One night she prepared shrimp etouffee accompanied by a mixed green salad, asparagus and perhaps the best bread pudding that I've ever had. Saturday Susy broiled and seared a beef tenderloin for dinner, along with a nice salad, twice baked potato casserole and Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert. Needless to say, I didn't lose any weight on this trip.

I know this review is a bit long, but a fishing trip as good as the one we experienced is hard to condense into a few words. Brian and his entire crew provide a first rate experience for those who love to fish. Frankly, it wouldn't be bad for those who don't! I can't...

I’ve fished with Louisiana Backwater Charters on two separate occasions, during different times of the year, and both times we were able to pick up our limit of speckled trout along with numerous redfish, sheepshead, and flounder to compliment the box. I prefer to target speckled trout over other species, just a matter of personal preference, but Brian and his crew of knowledgeable and diligent guides will put you on whatever type of species you would prefer to target. They provide a great atmosphere on the boat, supply all the necessary items needed for fishing, and they even clean your fish for you at no extra charge! There are only a few guides I would spend my hard earned money to go fishing with and Brian and his crew are definitely one of them! So if you find yourself looking to book a fishing trip on Calcasieu Lake and surrounding areas then I would seriously consider giving Louisiana Backwater Charters a call because they possess the skill and knowledge to put you on the fish and provide a great day out on the water! I know I’m looking forward to my next...

April 2 Nine men from my neighbor went out with three guides coordinated by Brian Haunchey from Louisiana Backwater Fishing. We all have fished for years out of Port Aransas, Texas and sad to say, we will not return. From the time we got our lines in the water, it was fish on. My personal problem was my first four fish Had to be thrown back because they were to big. We stayed at the fishing camp and utilized the cook offered by Brian and we were all very happy with both. There camp was very clean and well kept, sleeping 10 and Susie, the cook, was excellent. Our breakfast was ready at 5:30 and we walked, met out guides and left. Susie brought supper, crawfish Étouffée with rum pecan pie. It was great. I had to go back to work on Monday and all I thought about was the great fishing and guide service Brian provided for us. We have already scheduled our return fishing trip for October. Brian you did...

Called Brian up and he said he was booked but his partner Raini had an open boat, I told them we go catch reds all the time and we haven’t had much luck catching trout and that I ain’t really interested in a reds trip but we know it’s call fishing and not catch. Raini did an excellent job of putting us on a 3 man limit before time to head back, not to mention it was like fishing with a buddy instead of a guide, awesome time. They also have a place there at the dock to stay and it’s a very badass establishment and cheaper to stay there instead of a motel. 110% recommend Louisiana Backwater Charters and day of the week. We appreciate it guys
