Very confusing experience. We called to have a 3x10 bathroom floor and trim installed. First, someone from Touchdown (I think) came and measured and told me they’d have to raise the floor and cut my door to fit. They never had to do those things. The quote was off. I had been quoted like 2900 for the whole job. They budgeted in the quote for tile but they wouldn’t schedule the job until I came into the store and picked it which I needed an appointment for. Then when I was asking about what I could do to speed things up, he told me I could get my own tile and trim, so I did. It was much cheaper than what he quoted me, not quite sure why I couldn’t have gotten the same deal from them. But whatever, they scheduled it and came out. A tall white man showed up with 2 hispanic guys and the tall man looked it over, told the other 2 what to do then left. Never saw him again. The other guys were great and did an awesome job demo-ing what was left of the floor. I had previously pulled up 99% of the tile myself. They left then the next day, two different guys showed up and put the tile in. Did an awesome job, really friendly. I don’t think he was affiliated with Touchdown. After the tile was down, someone needed to come out separately to set the toilet so the next day that happened, pretty sure he didn’t work for Touchdown either. That left the trim. A guy showed up and my phone was on silent so I missed his call, he waited less than 10 minutes and left. Whatever, that was on me. The next day he came out and did an average job I guess? One of the smaller pieces of trim came off after, but I wasn’t about to call him back. I don’t think he worked for Touchdown either. Oh, and I have to caulk the trim and my sink myself. It wasn’t part of the quote…So I get the rest of the bill. I had paid 1400 something as a deposit so I expected the remainder to be much less than the original quote. The invoice had the title allowance and the door cutting on it so the total was really off. It was annoying because it was such a small job and it took over a week to finish. He fixed it, but the total still ended up being like 2400 bucks for that tiny little bathroom. I know things are hard and prices go up, but damn that feels like an insane amount of money for what they did.
That’s not the worst part. The worst part is that I hired Touchdown Tile to do the job and I’m pretty sure the only people who did the work were contractors. I think the tall man and the guy I was in contact with for the bill worked there, but everyone else was a contractor. I could be wrong but if a company hires contractors, don’t they have to raise the prices so they can make money? And futhermore, why should they make money if they’re just hiring people to do the job I hired them to do?
It was a messy, confusing process for what should have been an easy job considering I’d done more than half the demo myself. I will not be using them again. In fact, I would recommend to anyone looking to do jobs like this to check social media or NextDoor for local handymen. They’ll just end up getting the job through a bigger...
Read moreWe used Touchdown Tile because of the great reviews we read about. Unfortunately, our experience didn't come close to expectations. This was a complete remodel - all from scratch.
Lengthy post warning Touchdown tile was supposed to only do a new shower replacement for me and nothing more. Well on the first day, the demo’ers cut a water pipe and water flooded into the kitchen and dining room below. This subsequently lead to a complete tear out and rebuild of the kitchen and flooring which took over a month to complete. You might be asking to yourself “This sounds like a horrible experience! Why did he give them such a high rating then?”. And my response to that question is truthfully, many companies do good work, but on the same token, mistakes happen; but it is how a company responds to those mistakes that matters most. You’ve heard the horror stories of contractors walking off the job, or doing a bad job and not fixing it, but in this case, a mistake was made, and Touchdown Tile responded. They completely owned up to the mistake and quickly went to work to make it right. They immediately filed an insurance claim, arranged to have workers pulled off of other projects, and they worked a weekend; all the while keeping in constant contact with me and ensuring my questions and concerns were addressed. The project was not marked as completed until they got my approval that everything was addressed, which I appreciated. Lastly, they provided me with a sizeable discount for all of the troubles and were even able to negotiate upgraded flooring at no additional cost to me. In the end, I am pleased with the outcome and quality of their work and I appreciate them for following through with their promises to make it right. Thank you,...
