Mountain House Country Store — Local services in Hamilton Township

Very high end, but relaxing at the same time. Something you would expect more in a place like rural Connecticut, but happy it’s here! The staff are extremely nicely and perfectly low key. The store has a lot of unique, changing items to keep up with the seasons. Highly recommended if you want something special a cut above Target, Michael’s etc. for decorating or gift giving. The items include a mix of new, primitive/folk, country-cottage, vintage/used, and artist or craftsperson made goods. Something for everyone at all price points. I could not imagine leaving empty handed, but also just worth exploring to get your own creative juices going since the store is so meticulously presented with different displays and arrangements. I have been wanting to go to the store for a while now but it is not open on my way home from work so I finally took my daughter during their open hours and we were stopped at the entrance because I had my purse. I was asked if I read the sign stating that no purses were allowed on my way in . I was told I needed to keep my purse at the register or in my car as they have had a lot of theft. I was absolutely offended and could not believe the way a mother and daughter were treated in an accusatory way when Christmas shopping. We did not get past the front door. I did not put my purse in my car as we walked out and left and went down the road. This is a shame as I was really looking forward to shopping at this store. Instead of offending your honest customers you should put more effort into being observant for theft...

I’ve been inside this store many times before. Due to the ever changing decor and seasonal decorations it’s almost like it’s a very new experience each time. The owners are super friendly and helpful and are always willing to offer a decor opinion. I Have a large purse and I was nervous I would knock something over but the owner offered to hold my purse behind the counter and that was super convenient.
