I have been using RWJ as my primary hospital for 11 years. I was admitted 3 times and most recently a fourth time. The quality of care from each of the three physicians seen on Jan 13 were sub-par. I never had my heart or lungs listened to until I was admitted to a floor and a nurse did this. The doctor had his own agenda and refused to listen to what I had to say.
I told them from the get go that I was supposed to have surgery on my shoulder for completely torn rotator cuff and severe bone on bone. I told them I needed to reschedule. After three cat scans and my arm being pulled, stretched and turned, I had the MOST excruciating pain —-a 10 in my shoulder. The ER Doc refused anything for pain stating “ You are here for dizziness, not your shoulder.” I begged and pleaded for ice and my pain med (which I am prescribed) Finally I asked if I could just have a shot of Toradal.’
The Admitting doctor was the same way, the more I complained about my pain and it was extreme as it was popping in and out, the more the doctors ignored me. 2nd doctor actually said “ I do not care about your shoulder, it is not why you are here.” I remained in severe pain for 12 hours before I was given my prescribed pain med; not 1 but 2. I rarely get pain this excruciating.
No matter what I said to the physicians, they just refused pain meds ( Even the ones that they knew I had as a prescription). Never ever have I dealt with such heartless, incompetent physicians before. The horrific pain I had was from all the manipulating they had done. I did not arrive with shoulder pain.
The Nurses were kind, caring and even apologized for the doctor’s attitude.
The only professional that even listened to me and took me seriously was a Nurse Practitioner name Nancy.
After 2 days of testing and among one of the worst Neuro consults, I was discharged. I was admitted with no toothbrush, no toothpaste, no place to shower nor a wash cloth. I slept in my closes for the whole time. While in the ER fr 1100 am until 4pm, I asked if I could get something to eat or drink. There was never any water provided in both the ER and on the floor that I was on. I had to continually ask for water.
In all, the nurses were by far the most caring, kind and understanding. They went above and beyond. But, I am not sure where they found these doctors, who were terribly full of themselves, had a horrific bedside manner and seems to lack an ounce of empathy.
If you go to the vet and bring your dog and they get injured while in the vets care, do they just total ignore it, or address the problem? If I was bleeding profusely after I fell in the hospital, should RWJ docs tell me that they could not attend to this because it was not the reason for my visit?
Among the absolute worst care I have ever received. I will never use this facility again and I encourage other the same. From now on, I will travel 25 miles to go to Princeton.
RWJ’s physicians felt like I was in a backwards, third world country. Everything this I said regarding my condition was completely ignored. Upon discharge, a nurse did not go over any instructions at all. Did not provide me any information other than “See a Neurologist” They did not tell me that they called unnecessary meds into my pharmacy. Nothing. I have been in the hospital enough times to know that the Nurse is supposed to go over what your treatment was, special instructions etc. None of this was done.
I will be contacting the Hospital Admin to advise of the same. If you can, avoid this place— they never go over any of your test results either.

Follow up: A complaint was lodged with the Patient Advisory. I did receive 2 phone calls as well as a letter. I had told the ER dic that I could NOT have BP, blood work from my left arm. The doc ignored, staff ignored. I had severe pain due to the staff's refusal to listen to me. I just hope this does not happen to...
Read moreI was brought to RWJ Hamilton’s ER by ambulance in critical condition. I was in an unfamiliar place, an hour away from home, and in no condition to give information or figure out what needed to be done. Within minutes of my arrival, a team swooped in, did a thorough evaluation, and sprang into action to save me. I will always be grateful to all of the staff who not only saved me, but also comforted and cared for me as I began to stabilize and the worry set in. An especially big thank you to Cynthia. All I can say is that she went above and beyond! Impressively, that was just the beginning. The care and attention I received throughout my six day hospitalization was beyond any expectation one could have. Nurses such as Feliciana, Lester, and Allison in the ICU should be the model that all nurses strive to be like. As busy as they were, they always seemed to be there for me and made me feel as though I was the only patient they were responsible for. There was nothing I could even ask for because they anticipated my every need. I can safely say that the entire GI department is incredible. Having seen three doctors during my stay, along with having one procedure, I have to say WOW! Each doctor was caring and concerned, and took the time to sit and speak with me; asking questions as well as making suggestions and creating a plan. No surprise that the team down in the department responsible for the procedures were just as wonderful. I’ll admit to having been nervous, but they cured me of that instantly. I felt as though they were members of my family who were caring for me. I was so grateful that they took the extra time to put me at ease before we began. The final leg of my journey was to the fourth floor. No one ever wants to be in the hospital, but if you are, I suggest you try to be put on that floor. Every nurse on the floor went out of their way to do whatever they could to ensure that I was cared for and comfortable. They instinctively knew when to step away so I could rest, and when to talk or make a joke to lighten the mood. I will add that the room was designed in a way that it didn’t even feel like it was in a hospital. The last acknowledgement that needs to be made is Nutrition. Describing them as ready, willing, and able does not do them justice. The menu was filled with many choices, and the food was excellent. They helped you make the best selection based on what was best for your needs and your preferences. A very special thank you to Darlene who brought each meal with not just a smile, but a heaping dose of TLC. I could keep going on, but the truth is that words do not begin to express my gratitude to each and every person at RWJ Hamilton. It is clear that they have high expectations, and they recruit only the best people to come and work there. While I can not say I am happy that I had to stay in the hospital, I can emphatically say that I AM happy that my stay was at RWJ Hamilton. Thank you all from the bottom...
Read moreThis review is specific to the RWJ Sleep Care center.
I was referred to Dr Marcella Frank last year for sleep apnea. When I first called, the person I spoke to over the phone was very friendly and was able to schedule me for a telemedicine appointment right away with Dr Frank, which I really appreciated. My first appointment with Dr. Frank went well, as I had already done a home sleep study and she was able to diagnose my sleep apnea. She prescribed me a CPAP machine and told me that within two weeks if I haven't heard anything from the company that would be sending my CPAP machine to call her office back.
Well, two weeks later when I had heard nothing, I called back, and had a hard time getting anybody on the phone. I had to call back several times and leave several messages before I got someone on the phone, who told me that the office had forgotten to even send in the order to my insurance yet. Then another two weeks waiting for insurance authorization. Another time I called back and they had forgotten another form for the insurance. Eventually, the "two weeks" turned into two months before I finally had my CPAP. Keep in mind, sleep apnea is a potentially life threatening condition that requires urgent treatment. I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't been persistent in constantly calling the office and leaving messages they would have simply forgotten to send in the order.
Fast forward a few months later, and I am having lots of issues with my CPAP. I called the company and they told me that I needed to get another prescription from my doctor. This time, it was really time sensitive since I couldn't order replacement supplies (something which is important for sanitation) until I had a prescription. So I tried reaching Dr Frank, and again couldn't get anybody on the phone. I left a message explaining that this was a time-sensitive issue and that I was unable to order replacement supplies for my CPAP until I meet with her. No response. I called again, left more voicemails, trying to explain that not only do I need to talk to someone but I am having a very time sensitive issue that needs to be dealt with ASAP because I am currently using unsanitary CPAP supplies. No answer. Sent an email over the RWJ patient portal. Still no answer. It's been almost a month now and nobody has returned my calls.
I have now given up and decided to see a different doctor. It's not worth my time and effort to try and call every day begging for medical attention. Dr Frank seems like she is an excellent doctor, and I have heard good things about her. It's hard for me to confirm that being as I have only had the chance to meet with her once. So this review isn't so much about her as it is about the disorganized and unprofessional nature of this clinic.
If you don't mind having to wait months and months and months to be treated, perhaps the RWJ sleep center might be alright for you. But if you want to be treated with respect in a timely manner, I highly recommend you...
