Blackened Brew — Local services in Hammond

Walked in and the young lady was on the phone taking an order. No worries there. We stood waiting for a few minutes then I walked passed the counter to sit in a chair by the wall and seen 5 to6 employees sitting in the front room just talk8ng to each other chilling. When they saw me they continued to talk for a minute then broke up and went different directions. One seeing the girl on the phone came back and sat us at a table. We waited a few minutes and the girl that sat us and another girl started cleaning windows. Another couple minutes and she walked back behind the hallway and we heard her ask someone if they would go wait on us. In wich a young girl came out and took our drink order. My wife water and I ordered a beer. And an appetizer and our meal all then. My wifes water came then the appetizer 10 minutes later from a young man. Still no beers. We asked him about it and he went behind the wall and we heard our waitress. (Oh I forgot) then came with an opened beer that was not what I ordered. My wife spoke up and said that was the wrong kind. She was getting bothered at this point. The girl appalligized then came back stating they didn't have the beer I ordered. Bud lite. She brought me a budweiser. No worries I'll drink the red bottled beer. Then the burgers came and they was so burnt and charged and came with no condiments for the burgers or fries. After a few minutes we finally saw someone and asked for ketchup for both burgers and fries. We started eating what we could and asked for the check. 68 dollars. For this crap. Never again. Originally, I left a glowing review. This is about to change after my recent experience as I now have come to learn that if they make a mistake, they will not own up to it.

We ordered from this place ALL the time through waitr. The food is delicious. We ordered today and the food that arrived was terrible. It tasted like it had been sitting out for HOURS. The fries were cold and hard, and actually hurt my teeth to bite into. They got thrown out. The bacon on the burger was barely cooked, chewy and gross. The burger meat was okay but really cold and kind of dry tasting, but the buns were soggy for both burgers we ordered - the bread was inedible.

My mothers meal was missing the fries. The restaurant claims this doesn't come with fries, but we've ordered this many times before and it always has prior. If it doesn't come with fries, it should have never been included in the first place for this confusion to have happened and perhaps should be clearly written on the waitr menu.

We tried to call the restaurant and were sent to a voice mail that doesn't have a mailbox, so we contacted waitr instead. They contacted Blackened Brew and the restaurant swears the food was prepared 'properly.'

So basically we spent 39 bucks on food we ended up throwing in the trash.

The food is usually good and the service is usually great... Not sure what happened today, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth and I most likely will not order from them again if I can't trust them not to make things right when something is wrong. I don't often ask for refunds, and even here I only asked for a refund for the burger meals as we had to throw those away. I genuinely enjoy the vibe of this place. The shrimp and grits are delicious, even though they leave the full shrimp heads on, which is off-putting (especially since they clearly take the time to remove the legs and veins). The corn ribs weren’t my thing, but the drinks are great and there’s tons of space for large groups.

We actually considered this spot for our 10-year high school reunion, but after seeing how the owner responds to feedback on social media, we passed. I’d suggest checking out their comment section before you book anything, the food might be good, but the attitude isn’t always appetizing. Also I went there with a group of people for brunch. Just before the church crowd got there. We waited to order food bc we were waiting for the rest of the people to arrive, when we finally did order 5 out of the 7 of us, ordered food. The other 2 people didn’t want food, just drinks. 15/20 minutes later the server finally shows back up and asks the last two if they want to order and they say no, once again, and then she asks the 5 of us who had ordered if we wanted to have our order put in. Like yes duh that’s why we gave you our order 15/20 minute prior??? Then we waited another 30/40 minutes for our food to arrive. Cmon...
