I found this gem of a company through a Facebook Tiny Homes page article that showcased the small, Acorn model.
Their website is very informative about their entire process and I was immediately impressed by the level of experience demonstrated there. I signed up (online) for a free one-hour personalized design consultation which was eye-opening and very fruitful.
Next step was to schedule a shop visit, which happened this week. The designer had suggested that I come sit in one of the Acorns currently under construction (wear close-toed shoes and practical clothing if you go) to see how it feels, size-wise. It IS indeed very small - perfect for ease of moving.
Also, the engineering, design and quality of construction gives me confidence that the job would be done the way I would do it myself if I were ten years younger (I am a retired carpenter and general residential construction contractor with more than 20 years experience). Plus, they know stuff that I don't know like, how to engineer for seismic and other structural integrity while building onto a trailer as a moving foundation, other RV construction requirements (RVIA), insurance guidelines, financing and where to source specialty items (like the best ventilation system for your area's climate loads, or space-efficient appliances) the that make their finished products work so well.
Overall I am very impressed by Backcountry Tiny Homes' transparent and highly organized approach to designing and building THOWs. No hard sell here - just a genuine passion for tiny homes and an interest in getting to know me whether or not I buy from them. Plus, the demonstrated flexibility in meeting my specific build dreams has me convinced that their product goes...
Read moreI attended BCTH's two-day building workshop and it was fantastic. I can't believe how much content they were able to fit in two days - I learned so much. There was a wide range of expertise among the attendees (folks with little construction experience to those who had already done framing, electrical, etc.) and we all felt like we got so much out of the class.
Tina and Luke are incredibly knowledgeable about everything tiny home! They catered to different learning styles, providing didactic and hands-on learning experiences with help from members of their build team, Eric and Kayla, who were great.
I was most impressed by how generous Tina is about sharing her wealth of knowledge. It didn't matter if we were using their services to build our tiny home (though if you're looking for a builder, I can't imagine a better team to work with). What mattered to Tina was that we were learning to build homes that were up to the highest industry standards. She didn't hold back information or insider tips, and she personalized the session to our individual goals with information about living off-grid, considering different climates, talking to different municipalities, etc.
All in all, the experience was fun, engaging, and so educational. Highly recommend the workshop! If I could partner with a builder, no question I would go with this team. They're open for tours so you can visit their shop and see the gorgeous...
Read moreThis past weekend, I took Backcountry's Tiny Home Building Class and I cannot rave over how valuable it was. My intention for taking the course was not necessarily because I am planning on building a tiny home in the near future, but because as a relatively new homeowner, I was looking to build my core skills, such as plumbing and electrical, to be able to tackle any challenge that could arise within my new home. I can confidently say that I've achieved that goal by taking this course. Tina and Luke (and Eric) were absolutely amazing! All three were knowledgeable, friendly, and so well organized. They answered any and all questions that I or my classmates had and even offered to continue the relationship beyond the course if I happened to have any questions when tackling a challenge in my home. If I ever wanted to build on my home or wanted a tiny home built for me, I would 100% reach out to these folks; they clearly are so passionate about their craft and you can see that exhibited in not only this class, but how they conduct their business overall and the quality product (a tiny home) that they produce. Again, I would highly recommend Backcountry Tiny Homes for absolutely anything tiny home (or even general home construction, plumbing, and/or electrical) related. Thank you again, Tina, Luke and Eric! You...
