I am happy to say that I have received my Private Pilot from American Flyers in Morristown, NJ and I am currently enrolled in their Instrument/ Commericial program. I appreciate the space that this location has provided. The 1 on 1 instruction, well maintained PA-28 fleet, and complex NJ/NY airspace have helped me to excel in the flight training portion of my curriculum. Ground lessons are typically great. The instructors are thorough and allow you to build a very professional and fun instructor-student relationship. However, American Flyer’s uses their own textbooks that I find to be not as thorough as some of their competitor’s such as Jeppesen. BUT, the instructors do a great job to help bridge any gaps between information that is missed and as someone who likes to create study guides and find new ways to study, it is not something that has discouraged me. As for simulator usage, I love that it is free for students to use when available, but I would like to see a more cohesive and up to date simulator cockpit environment that translates to the actual fleet that is flown at KMMU which is much more modern. Scheduling is typically smooth and communication is always free and without judgement. I have not yet encountered a problem with their texting/calling system that they use now, but I would love to see the school incorporate a more flexible system system that other flight schools in the area use. (e.g., an online scheduling system where student can see dates and times of plane/ instructor availability as they schedule.) Overall, I would recommend this flight school to a friend or anyone looking to progress in their aviation career and I do plan on continuing with the rest of my training at this location.

Started training in May 2022 for my private, finished February 2023. Most of my training was completed during the summer since I am still in high school. Over the summer my training experience was excellent and I learned a ton during that time period. However once school started I feel like I was tossed aside in the scheduling process. It was a constant uphill battle to get on the schedule at the correct times. I would set my availability, and they would give me the exact opposite. When I would try to change it to the correct time, I was told all the planes were booked already. This was extremely frustrating and severly delayed my training several times. Several instructors also agreed that without these issues, I would have finished my check ride by early December. I trained primarily with Ben Ridgeway, who if you have the opportunity to fly with, will love. Ben is by far the best instructor I flew with at American Flyers. He was patient with me and allowed for me to grow as a pilot. He is also pretty young which allowed me to connect with him better and understand when I really needed to improve a landing or maneuver. Ben over prepared me for my check ride and without him I probably wouldn't have passed.

American Flyers Morristown has proven to be an exceptional flight training institution to partner with. Offering both Part 61 and Part 141 programs, they provide flexible financing options, including Sallie Mae loans or a pay-as-you-go structure, ensuring accessibility without compromising quality. Regardless of the payment method, students receive a professional, engaging, and enjoyable training experience. Their fleet consists primarily of modern Piper Pilot 100i aircraft, equipped with advanced glass cockpits for enhanced usability and efficiency. The instructors are highly dedicated, treating each student as an individual while sharing their passion for aviation. Their guidance and support create an optimal learning environment tailored to each student’s needs. I am grateful for the time, commitment, and patience demonstrated by the team at American Flyers Morristown. Thank you for your ongoing support in making this journey a success!

You get told how much they charge you for the day for ground and flight, but they never actually provide you a receipt of the breakdown of what you're paying for. This is especially true if you pay in cash, they will just give you a piece of paper saying you paid this amount of cash, and wont give you change, they just automatically put the change as credit on your account, but still you have no clue what you are paying for.

The flight instructor I worked with was young (20 years old), inexperienced (got all his ratings a few months ago and literally started at this flight school a year ago) and could not instruct/teach for his life. It's nice that he knows his things, but NOT once did the instructor show nor go over the pre-flight check list; rushed the preflight check on his own to "get up in the air as fast as possible"; just gave you a short direction (ie "do this") and expecting you to know what to do without them showing you what to do or how to do it; and was severely distracted in flight and on the ground by other planes, and not for safety reasons (As you would survey the sky for any oncoming traffic, he would spot a plane and literally stare at it without having any situational awareness for anything else outside or on the controls, to the point where if the plane already passed to the back he would literally turn around and still look at it).

The flight instructor never endorsed my log books for ground instruction/training.

The flight instructor wrote "notes" on achievements and areas of improvement for the school's records, had me sign it and yet they never told me what was written just forced me to sign it. Additionally, they never gave me a copy of it.

I never received a copy of anything I signed at the school. I was told that all the paperwork would be held at the school but will not be provided to me. If I sign something, it should be standard that I receive a copy of what I signed up for.

If I am paying for an instructor to teach me, I expect the instructor to actually teach me, and not just sit back and make sure he gets enough hours to move on to a career in aviation on my time and on my wallet. I learned more from watching flight instructors on YouTube, for free, than from my flight instructor.

The only positive I have to say about the school is the manager John, he was very polite, was not pushy in any way and was a true professional.

I would NOT recommend this flight school. They have a nice office and everything seems "structured" and "organized", but these flaws that I mentioned left a bad taste...

My experience at American Flyers in Morristown, NJ was exceptional. From the very beginning, it was clear to me that the entire team is deeply committed to helping students succeed. The staff’s dedication to ensuring students meet their goals is evident, and the curriculum is designed to meet students where they are, providing a personalized path toward success. The team works tirelessly to make sure goals are achieved in a realistic and timely manner.

Learning to fly safely was a daunting challenge for me, but the team at American Flyers was more than capable of guiding me through every step. Their curriculum is not only structured to develop essential skills, but it’s also adaptable to each student's pace and needs. The staff is highly skilled and trained, and what truly sets them apart is their genuine care for their students. They go beyond just teaching the necessary material — they ensure each student reaches their desired level of proficiency.

Thanks to the constant support, guidance, and motivation I received from the team, I was able to complete my training and am now inspired to continue advancing in my aviation career. The personal attention I received was key to helping me overcome my doubts and move forward with confidence. The team’s encouragement was essential in ensuring that I never lost sight of my goals and helped me push through challenges.

Without the unwavering support of the American Flyers team in Morristown, I know I wouldn’t have reached my goals. I am incredibly grateful for their dedication and the care they put into every student’s success. If you’re considering a career in aviation, I highly recommend American Flyers, Morristown, NJ.
