Honestly, this is a FANTASTIC drive-in. It's well kept, great lot staff helping folks with lights, etc if needed. Fair rules for parking and a little looser rules in less busy nights. The love and care taken for the original sign and atmosphere is obvious and very appreciated as it really brings the experience home.
The Retro nights are an awesome feature and something that will keep my wife and I checking back for showtimes on. Definitely not something all remaining drive-ins do and it's appreciated.
The prices are on average with pretty much all other drive-ins we've been to around the state, if not a touch cheaper. Concessions were reasonable and quick to purchase.
One of the most important items to review, the screen quality. They boast laser projected on the Facebook and for good reason. The picture quality even through a rainy evening was great. I've been to several drive-ins over the last couple years where the projection has been very dark, poor quality and difficult to see. This is not the case at Holiday at all, we really enjoyed both movies without issue.
The only reason this review is stuck at 4 stars for me is because of the bathrooms. While I do appreciate that they have a very small setup, the line for the actual bathroom is quite long, especially at intermissions. Having a port-a-john on premises is a good feature to relieve some of that issue, but from what I saw tonight, which was a slower evening, they could still use more than one. Or perhaps one that's more like those trailer style port-a-johns with more than one bathroom, those generally are a little more appealing to use as well.
That being said, I also understand that also may cost more cash and budgets are what they are, I appreciate that they are trying to help their limited availability. However I think an additional spot or an upgrade would make this drive-in a real stand out with very limited negatives.
Bonus: They take credit card at the gate and at concessions, this is also not the norm everywhere, even though...
Read moreDrive-in movie theaters are almost like a right of passage. You haven't lived/seen a movie, until you've seen it outside!
I think I'm more depressed that i just recently stumbled upon this place than I am about anything else. Growing up in the middle of nowhere I had the luxury of not 1 but 2 drive-ins in my county, and now I don't think there's more than 10 in the state. Which is unfortunate, as this is a place that is absolutely perfect to bring a family or a small group of friends. The movies are surprisingly recently released movies, and some weekends are more kid themed than others, so you just need to check the website.
$8 a person is a little steep in my opinion, especially when the concessions are a tad more expensive than they need to be, but when you think about that you'd pay at least that much to sit in a normal theater and only get one movie, you're getting 2 and sometimes 3 movies out of it. For the most part people are good about not parking in the middle and doing 2 cars in between the poles. But if its not crowded you can easily lay out blankets and lawn chairs and sit next to your car and turn the speakers up. The concessions aren't a bad deal, still cheaper than theater munchies.
Its not rowdy, so if you're looking to go hang out and get drunk and watch a movie, this is not the place to do it. Everyone's normally pretty good about following the rules. The retro "commercials" at intermission between the movies are great. I kinda like that they give you a nice big break between movies, to take the little ones potty, get more snacks, stand up/wake up, but its kinda almost too long of a time gap.
All in all, definitely should be on your list of summer...
Read moreFive Stars just based on the point of keeping this American tradition alive. The picture quality looked great even being old 80s films, what an upgrade from the drive-in showings of my 90s youth. Atmosphere was great, facilities were very clean, Sheriff even rolled through just to check on the environment. Loved the Snack Shack and the workers were wonderful, did not love my pretzel with cheese though.😕 Without a doubt the worst I've ever had in 43 years. They should have paid me $5 to eat it!😝 Lol Absolutely will be back very soon, well worth my hour drive from northern Kentucky.
A tip to folks: Bring a decent portable radio, no radio apps on cell pick up their transmiting station.
Seasonal tips: Extra layers and a nice fleece blanket if its Fall like now. Quality comfortable lawn/camping chairs, you're gonna be there awhile hopefully. Enjoy the movies outside your car if possible, it's a much better time and...
