All-in all... not bad. I actually wound up at this airport because I learned that you can't get to Allentown from Raleigh without either going to Charlotte of Philadelphia and I wasn't sure how long a ride it would be from Philly to Allentown in traffic. Needless to say, I figured going as far north as possible was the best option, so I arrived in Allentown via Philadelphia. If I had it to do over again, I'm not sure I'd choose this route.
First, when you arrive into the Philadelphia airport, you are nowhere near where you have to get to in order to take the short commuter flights that take you to places like Allentown. In fact, I had to walk to the middle of the terminal I landed at, go outside, wait for a bus that would then take me to the terminal across the way that handles the commuter travel. I forgot to mention that I happen to be there in mid December and it was cold and snowing. Great.
Once you grab a plane headed from Philly to Allentown, you quickly realize that this is going to be a short and uncomfortable flight. Two seats on one side and one of the other (which is elevated off the ground about a foot--- read no head of leg room and you get the idea.) Once airborne and headed into Allentown you realize they don't really have to put the landing gear back up after takeoff because its only a 17 minute flight. The pilot actually told us the Philly to Allentown flight was the shortest in the nation.
One real upside to Allentown's airport is it's size. Because it's small, heading off the plane and out is a breeze.
Pluses: Small and quick to exit from. Nice not to have to sit in traffic from Philly. Awesome security (fast and nice) Free wifi that has a decent speed
Downsides: Can't really get there direct from anywhere in the South except Atlanta or Charlotte. Philly is awful to connect through. If you have a departure cancel (like I did) there's no at the gate service on most flights, so you have to go back to the front of the airport to reticket, then go back through security. This takes way too long. There's really no food if you're delayed and hungry. The bar is small, but has a nice...
Read moreThe Long term overflow parking !!!!!!! There needs to be a reliable tram that runs on a regular schedule! I called to make sure that there would be a tram that would take me to the over flow parking lot when I landed on a Friday night at 10:45 p.m.. I had recently had a hip replacement, I didn't know what to expect , Snow, Ice, being dark and not familiar with the area worried me. the person that answered the phone in Passenger services told me that the last tram was 5:00 p.m.. and she was extremely rude when I asked her why there was no transportation at that time of the night. I called back and asked to speak to the manager of Passenger Services Marcy I think was her name. Marcy was very nice and arranged for a tram to pick me up. The tram was there waiting for me, as we were getting ready to leave for the parking lot other passengers got on the tram, all the seats filled except for 2. I was the youngest Passenger on the tram, they were all elderly and one woman even was in a wheel chair!! WHY is this not a regular part of LVIA process?? If I wouldn't have called and asked to speak to the manager and insist on some sort of transportation it would have been a mess like i'm sure it is daily at that time of the day. I understand the cost to park long term but there should always be an option to be able to take a tram that...
Read moreStood in the security line well over an hour. 30+ people missed their flight to Clearwater and Chicago and Allegiant wouldn't delay flights or allow us to move thru the line. Not our fault they weren't prepared for two 6am flights. Multiple TSA officers just standing around instead of assisting. Refused to assist in expediting. Would not recommend. No other flights. Stranded at the airport with 3 children. Thank you Allegiant! Not our fault- seeking refund!!
*Telling us how you're going to fix the problem doesn't help me now. How many people go to your website after booking a flight? I booked thru Allegiant website where it says nothing about ABE security. Lesson learned. A kind couple actually let us get in front of them but TSA refused to let us through. I had to wait until car rentals were open (4 hours), spend $180 just to drive to Harrisburg where I spent another $960 on a new flight. And we got thru security in ten minutes! TEN! ABE, you dropped the ball with your incompetent staff! Do the airlines that fly out of your airport know about your incompetent TSA? Maybe advise them so they can email customer to let us know your security moves at a snails pace. And there's PLENTY of people complaining about this. Fix...
