We stayed in the Rustic Chalet cabin. The cabin is in a great location and the dirt road was well maintained. The marking signs on the side of the road are a little hard to spot as they are fairly small and beige, but we were able to find the driveway okay. The cabin sits in a beautiful spot in the wooded area amidst the tall pine trees. It is rather close to the roadway so you will hear the traffic driving by as you are on the balcony deck or enjoying the relaxing hot tub. There is a BBQ grill and a small table on the deck to enjoy the outdoor space. The large fire pit was a great place to gather around and enjoy the cool evenings, cooking smore's with the kids. It appears that they might sometimes have bundles of wood right outside the door to the cabin as there is a sign saying to leave $5 if you use a bundle, but there was not any wood available to use. We just went down to the town and purchased some, but be prepared in case you would like to have a fire that there might not be wood available.
One of the big reasons we chose this cabin over others was because it advertised and had pictures of having a beautiful pot belly stove in the main living room. (See pictures below from their website) We used to own a house that had a wood burning stove and loved to sit and relax by the warmth and listening to the crackling of the stove. It wasn't until we got there that we realized that there wasn't actually a pot belly stove at all which was quite a big disappointment. You can see in the ceiling where the stove pipe had been, but I'm guessing it had been removed at some point in the past. It would have been nice upon confirming the reservation to have been notified that one of their major talking points on their website was no longer available.
The furniture in the cabin is an eclectic collection of rather dated items that weren't really cohesive with the space, but they are represented in the photographs on the website, so that is accurate. The beds on their own weren't terrible, they had tried to make them more comfortable with a foam topper on the mattresses that made them better to sleep on. If you are sharing one of the queen beds with a partner, be warned that they do sink in the middle considerably, so if you like your space in bed at night, you will be struggling to stay out of the middle of the bed.
The Kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pots, pans and dishes for anything you might be cooking. There was a coffee pot with some really good coffee supplied. The fridge was rather small but we were able to squeeze in our food for the 4 days that we were there. There were a few board games and the TV worked well. Like other reviewers we did not get cell reception in the cabin (AT&T) but we were prepared for that. A short walk to the top of the hill or a quick drive down the road towards town and we had service. The lower/basement area had a pool table to play on which was nice, although only 2 of the 4 pool cues had tips and one of those was broken at the base, but we were able to make it work. The pool table bumpers are quite worn out and falling down, making it difficult to play a game, but the kids didn't seem to mind too much.
All in all we had a good time in the cabin; spending time together as a family can make just about anywhere a fun time. We didn't have to contact the owners once we were there for anything, but when I did call before our stay to extend one extra night, they answered right away and gladly accommodated us. Value was decent for the area for what you get, just wish that the lack of the wood stove was represented before arrival so we could have made changes since that was one of the things we were looking forward to most. I would stay again, but probably just in one of the other 2 cabins since it appears that they have...
Read moreFirst I will start off by saying the Rustic Chalet was better than sleeping in a tent and showering in a public shower house. The Chalet could use many updates from top to bottom. The lighting was terrible in every room but the downstairs where the pool table was. The pool table and pool sticks were in poor condition. The sticks had bad tips, the table was falling apart causing nails to stick out so you had to be careful that your clothes or skin didn't get caught. The reclining couch upstairs is falling apart, could not even use the recliners. The lever on one end was taped over, the other end got stuck in the recline position which we had to flip the couch over to get it back down. The bedding seemed to be very old and was hard to tell if clean because of the lighting. The shower upstairs leaked water round the door all over the floor. This seems to be an ongoing issue as there was mold and mildew around the shower. I would also agree another review the showers are not accommodating for larger adults. The beds were very uncomfortable, definitely not fit for two adults. The fan in the downstairs bedroom could not be used, very loud like it was going to fall out of the ceiling. We were looking forward to the hot tub but that was a disappointment as well. I had contacted the representative for the Chalet to confirm we could arrive to the property early and he advised the hot tub had to be drained and refilled. I thought great at least I know it's clean water but he continued to say the water will be a rusty color because of the well water and chemicals but should clear up. Uh, that water did not clear up before we left and did not look appealing to even sit on the edge with our feet in.
Again, if the options were to stay in the Rustic Chalet or a tent I would choose the Chalet. It was just unfortunate that not everything advertised in the property description and or photos could not be enjoyed...
Read moreWe stayed in the Riverview Lodge, off-season, November 10th through the 14th. The pictures made it look nicer than it actually was. It was clean inside, but it had a cheap remodel feel to it.
We couldn't use the hot tub for the first couple days because the water was green and cloudy. We were left some bromine to add to it on our 2nd night. The first morning, the downstairs toilet backed up and we couldn't use the water until someone came to fix the problem, luckily they were pretty quick to respond. The deck has some really soft spots in a couple areas and there were nails sticking up 1/2" in another area, which we had to pound back down so the kids didn't get injured. I did rip a hole in 1 of my socks because of the nails. Luckily it was just my sock. There are notes everywhere with do's and don'ts. When you're paying hundreds of dollars a night to stay in a rental, you shouldn't be limited on shower time or whether or not you can do laundry.
The water was the worst part for me. It had a strong sulfur or sewage smell to it. Like it wasn't treated correctly. I only took a couple showers because the poor quality of it. It felt like you weren't getting clean and it just had a slimy feel to it. There were air fresheners in both bathrooms to help cover the smell.
I did like the fire pit and the outside area. There was plenty of seating for everyone.
I wouldn't stay there again if given the choice though. It wasn't...
