After driving for hours in the rain and darkness on little mountain roads that my husband and I are not familiar with, we finally arrived at this rest area...or what we thought was a rest area. My husband and I are traveling through in a tiny Teardrop camper. Since it is a Saturday night on the 4th of July weekend, it is impossible to find a campground to stop for the night. The least that this welcome center could do is provide 24 hour bathroom access for travelers, especially when it is the last facility for the state of Vermont!!!
I was so excited to visit the beautiful state of Vermont, but am very disappointed after not having a safe place to pull over for a short rest while traveling after hours. The interstate road is also very dangerous with all of the ruts and water standing in the highway which can cause travelers to hydroplane.

I stopped at both welcome centers in the state en route from Maine to New York and neither were open. Not only that, but apparently the operation hours are 7a to 7p and you cannot even access a toilet after 7 pm. The highways throughout the state are dark, poorly lit, little notifications of toilet facilities. I've never seen such a thing. My only trip through Vermont, so sadly this is the impression I am left with. Even in Kansas the Welcome Centers still offer access to toilets and free maps and brochures 24/7.

Read moreThis might be one of the best visitor centers that we have ever stopped at to rest. Excellent center with lots of information about the area and some history as well. Be sure to read about the three clergymen who sacrificed their lives during World War II so that others would live. It's an amazing story.
Super clean restrooms, well maintained parking lots for cars and on the other side for big rigs like tractor trailers, motorhomes, etc.
Found it surprising that there is only one trash can, and it is inside the visitor center. I think the message is that they want to carry your trash with you.
All in all, it is a great place to stop, relax, and walk the dog before getting back out...
