We were considering adding a new dog to our house My daughter mentioned she might want to do a rescue adoption from a shelter Nevertheless, we had no clue about which shelters to visit. Luckily, a friend volunteered at Apollo for her school service project. Knowing Becca was interested in adopting, she text her picture after picture and also introduced us to the shelter. As we ventured into the world of rescuing dogs, we felt at least we had a place to start Being that this would be our first adopting a dog i would say everyone was between eager to anxious. I certainly was eagerly nervous. Apollo's staff could not have been more helpful, cooperative, and patient. On our first visit, we strolled through the kennel reading each dog's description looking for dogs that we thought could be a good match. We had a goldielocks dog in mind: female, not too old or young, not too big or too small, not too needy or too aloof, not too hyper or too docile. Finally, it was an absolute must they get along well with other, human and canine. Our home, has Sophie, our four-year-old lab mix raised from a pup and a neighborhood full of other dogs. We took a couple of candidates for walks around the grounds with the help of Apollo's great staff. We found one, Sansa, whom we liked (other than her name) quite a bit; nevertheless, we were still anxious about introducing Sansa to Sophie. Apollo let us bring Sophie on our next visit and we introduced the new potential "sisters". What I really like was Apollo certified animal trainer was there to observe, comment, and advise us during the entire introduction process. Which, by the way, took a lot longer than I expected. However, the results could not have been better. They slowly warmed up to each other and then towards the end began to play. We decided we all liked everything, except her name, and started to adopt Sansa, albeit as Luna. Fortunately, she arrived at the shelter nameless and had been given Sansa not long ago. Apollo has a generous policy allowing us to be Luna's "foster family" for two weeks before the full adoption would be completed Next, because Apollo is a bit of a drive for us, the owner actually delivered Luna to us at home and was able to help Luna transition those first few minutes in an entirely new place. In sum, Apollo did everything imaginable to help make the adoption a success. If you are interested in adopting and rescuing someone in need, I would definitely recommend Apollo on the short list of...
Read moreI had to surrender 5 nine month old puppies along with their mommy and daddy due to a sudden family emergency. It was the worst day of my life and one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. The lady that I worked with at Apollo support and rescue was absolutely amazing. She came out to my house the very next day and picked up my babies and was very compassionate about what I was going through. The daddy dog is a very special boy. He's has some behavioral issues due to his previous owner before I rescued him and he can sometimes be a little aggressive and very overwhelming. So he needs a little extra patience and time. I was so scared to surrender him because I was afraid that he would be put down because of his behavioral issues. Most shelters would say that he was not adoptable. But this lady promised me that wouldn't never happen to my boy and by the time she came to pick him up she had already found a perfect foster family for him that is going to take amazing care of him and even work with him to help him with his issues and to hopefully work through the fears he has from being abused by the people who had him before I got him. She had also already arranged foster families for all of the rest of my babies! As soon as she got them to their facility they all got baths and updated on their shots and scheduled to be spayed and neutered. She has promised to keep in touch with me and to update me frequently on how they are all doing and when they get adopted. The one thing I wanted the most is to be able to watch my 5 puppies grow up and to experience all their "firsts" and she has promised that I will still get to do that. She promised that when the puppies get adopted she will let the new owners know about me and my wish to watch them grow up and ask that they stay in contact with the rescue or me and update me as the get older. I appreciate everything this rescue has done for me and my fur babies. They are true...
Read moreThis rescue was very excited about adopting out to me. Well I had a family situation happen and they decided my home was unstable because I had to leave for 2 days .. my grand father fell and literally ripped his foot off. This is honestly BS! I was very excited and they led me on. Don’t adopt from them. they can’t even get a spay appointment figured out. You can walk into about any pet clinic and have the dog fixed right there. Even during covid. First I was told July 20, then august 20, then undetermined. A lot of miscommunications. The only good quality is that the dog I wanted was amazing, and the foster mom was amazing. Other then that.. nothing but a bad experience. They said the dog has been through a lot and doesn’t want her to go through any more trauma. If I didn’t think I could handle a dog. I would have not looked and applied. So, they pretty much said I’m to unstable for The dog and I’m gonna traumatize her. And when my situation is more “stable” they’ll look to get a different dog adopted to me. That’s honestly a load of bologna, and they even went through mine and the foster moms text messages..
Response to response of rescue: no, I left and told her idk how long I’ll be gone, i moved July 18. That was always a set date . If she was concerned, then she would have said no. But my life was never really “unstable” I’m settled now, thanks, and I’ll be adopting a beautiful baby from somewhere else since you’re so discriminatory of people! And I got told for the spay date multiple different answers: so you guys obviously don’t have anything organized. Have...
