This beach is at the second town entering Cape Hatteras, Waves. It’s residential with access to the beach for everyone. Endless beach. Although it’s residential most of the year it’s like being on your own beach. Great environment but personally I would not swim. It’s the Atlantic Ocean with creatures and at times strong waves to get hurt seriously. In the summer, plenty of jelly fish. On this particular visit they weren’t too many seashells but other visits it’s a seashell heaven. In season good luck with finding a reasonable priced hotel.    Read moreI almost booked a place to stay here for our vacation to the OBX. I am so glad I didn't! Little did we know that not only was the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse closed (for 2 more years), but there's really not a way to get to the beach without an off-road vehicle. Otherwise, you're going to have to walk a LONG ways to the beach. We drove down (an hour away from Kill Devil Hills) just because we thought this was a must-see while on OBX. It is NOT. It might be worth it after the Lighthouse is back in operation (since it appears you can get to the beach from there), but until then, save your time and stay on the Outer Banks north of the Cape Hatteras...
