After purchasing an expensive math curriculum...
Then, I came across a YouTube video about RIght Start and I don't know how, but I just knew I had to get that program. Even though I had spent a lot of money on Singapore, and we were on a budget, I understood that finding the right curriculum for my child (children now) was a top priority. Unfortunately because I had spent so much money on Singapore, I was trying to still use it and in the process I delayed my son from just doing Right Start Math from the beginning and RightStart Math only. But as my son played the games, used the Al Abacus, and did the activities, my number sense started to make sense. Not only my son was learning with RM, I was learning too. This was amazing and I said to myself "If I would have been taught math this way when I was a kid, I would have been a genius." I stopped using the other program and just focused on RM. I started my son on level A (which is the level K with a lot of 1st grade and some 2nd grade). I had my son take the State Exam here in Florida and he scored above average on first grade USING RIGHTSTART MAT LEVEL A. My son's favorite subject is math. Level A felt always easy for him but it's easy because the child sees the math. He sees the numbers on the Abacus which has two simple colors to show the 5s. The place value cards are another hit. My son can read high numbers because he sees the 1s, the 10s, the 100s and he also sees the 1000s and it's just genius that he doesn't even have to write it because it's already there. I think this is genius because not having to write these high numbers (for little kids) allow the child to focus his attention and energy on understanding the number. The writing process is not a natural process. It takes a lot of mental energy and effort (and of course every child is different, hence it varies), but focusing on understanding math at a deep level with the manipulatives and without having to do so much writing is genius. It is so genius that I wish I could have found or known about this program when my child was younger because this program (due to the way is designed) can be done by very young kids (since they don't have to do much writing when those fine finger-motor skills are not yet developed). RightStart is the math program I wish I had. My love for mathematics had long been gone and I even thought I was not good at math. I will never say that again. My love for math came back with this program and that is very important because I enjoy doing math with my kids. I already bought Right Start Level B, C and D and I was going to skip B, but I'm deciding that I will not skip it, we may just go on this level faster (we'll see), but the truth is that I want my children to learn math and not just check a box that something was done, and this skills build upon one another. I am so grateful for this program. Thank you for RightStart Math for creating a program that is a blessing to children, parents and the world. What a legacy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am homeschooling and when I got to my third son it seemed ok going through kindergarten math but by first grade math I started seeing clear differences from my prior 2 children that he wasnāt getting math the same way. This was also my first experience with dyslexia, and when I saw how he wasnāt getting math doing it with traditional classic teaching of math curriculum, I realized I had a misconception that since he had dyslexia he would do great at math- in fact he also has DYSCALCULIA and was developing math anxiety as well with our prior curriculum. RIGHT START math has been a game changer, we just started at the beginning since I donāt believe he ever developed ānumber senseā with prior curriculum. It is perfectly made for someone with dyslexia and dyscalculia. Lots of manipulatives- I had never considered an abacus before and itās great! My son no longer gets anxiety with doing math- itās a lot more fun, hands-on, interactive. I have no teaching background before homeschooling so having the specific directions for card games, what to say to the child going through the lesson, itās all so incredibly helpful. Love the option of being able to purchase the whole package of manipulatives so I donāt have to go searching for them individually. I am so glad I chose RIGHT START math, it has greatly helped our school year thus far, and Iām looking forward to continuing to use their curriculum for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy 3 year old showed an early interest in learning math and I didnāt know where to start. I knew I wanted more for him than to learn numbers and counting and remembered my own struggles with math so I knew I wanted something different. After lots of research into different at home programs and watching other parents reviews, I decided on RightStart. I loved the idea of using all of the different manipulatives to see numbers/ quantities in different ways. Immediately after getting the package we were all so excited! I use the online videos that review the lessons each week and glance through and thatās all the prep I need - everything is right there and ready and the lessons tell you exactly what you need so thereās no guessing. Once we started the lessons my son loved it right away! He was engaged right away with yellow is the sun and all of the lessons. The focus on subitizing has been amazing for him. Again, my son is 3 and is engaged by all of the lessons! Honestly the way they teach math has helped ME and my husband understand math in a way we never have before and have both had aha moments and we are only on the first level! My son asks to learn math and gets so excited. I canāt speak highly enough about the program we will definitely be continuing...
