How time changes things, and not for the better. Today, after many years we decided to visit the Hebron Harvest Fair. We took the day off to enjoy the weather and what we anticipated to be the same fair we remembered.
Letβs start with parking. Online, the webpage said parking would be $5, half the normal price if purchased by 9/2/25. Sounds good, so we paid on line. As we pull in this afternoon there is a sign flashing above us saying parking is βfreeβ before 4:00 pm. When we mentioned this to the folks at the ticket booth, they responded with, βwe donβt do the web site β. Sure itβs only $5, but get the information straight.
Now letβs move on to the fair. In general the fair consists of a few small buildings with small craft vendors. There is the amusement area filled with the traditional carney rides and games, and a few bits of livestock including the infamous Racing Pigs. No fair is complete without racing bacon. This made up 30% of the grounds. The remainder was filled with every manner of gastronomic pollution one can imagine. So much so that two ambulances, a med team and cardiologist were all on hand. Is this what fairs are now? The only thing missing was the Ozempic and IV tent.
Where are the tractor pulls, barns of fowl, steers and sheep? Where are the tractor vendors, motorcycle dealers, small hand tool and power equipment shops? Where are the artisans with their unique wares, not knock offs from overseas?
This fair has seriously lost its mojo. Iβm sure there are thousands of nutrition-less folks who canβt wait to get their hands on the smothered tater tots, bacon wrapped Oreos, or the prized black angus ajus monster sandwich all at Michelin star prices, but where is the fair?
This reviewer will cross this fair forever off the list, but for the fair food faithful...
Β Β Β Read moreThe fair is getting worse and worse every year! The food stands are not the same food quality as prior years, and the prices have gone up significantly! Many of the heartless booth renters complained if you went in under the tent trying to stay as dry. My son is in a wheelchair and i was trying to prevent him from being soaked!! One lady said to my handicap son a better place for you to sit would be in the beer garden!? We bought season passes like we have for years but were unable to use them. Truthfully, the only enjoyable time was fri, and that was only until the demolition was over. I truly wonder how many family's or people got ripped off because they closed the fair down early. I bought 2 ride wristbands for $70, 10 minutes later, they closed the rides down. And as i arrived on Sunday hoping to watch the truck pulls, I can't get in because the fair is closed due to weather!! I know their must have been talk of shutting them down due to the weather, but you were still selling tickets/wristbands knowing they were eventually getting shut down with no warning to customers!...
Β Β Β Read moreGood fun for the family with some great food and hours of entertainment for the kids. Ticket prices are questionably high and the carnival workers can (at times) be annoyingly bothersome. Gripes aside, the kids have a blast. The animal showings are always fun and having gone for a few years, you begin to formulate your repeat visits (even on the food vendor side). One of our particular favorites are the gyros. Probably the first time in my life having feta and blue cheese together on a gyro (maybe I'm just late to the party) but has become an annual staple that we always go out of our way to grab. As others have noted, Hebron could do a bit more on the pricing side but outside of that primary call-out, if you're a local (or nearby / adjacent town), you've got to go at least once to experience it. Side note for first timers, we've found it better to get there earlier (toward opening) let the kids run around and enjoy the rides, eat, tour around, and get out before it gets...
