I haven't purchased a vehicle from a dealership in 20 years. My old Tahoe was getting less dependable and the repairs costing more than it's value. A friend told me about this dealership and the large selections of decommissioned police Tahoes they had on the lot. I studied their website which displays tons of information and price on each vehicle. I then researched used Tahoes available across central and southeast Texas. Huge difference in prices. Now I would rather go to the dentist to have a tooth pulled than go to a car dealership, but I decided to make the 150 mile drive to check them out.
I arrived and found a large selection of mostly Tahoes. Black, white and some black and white that were equipped with and without some of the police options. (Push bars, led strobes, spotlights, consoles setup for radio and controls, and storage compartments in the back) These are not your soccer mom Tahoes but they were equipped with my must have luxuries. No carpet on the floors or leather seats but they have tilt wheel, cruise, electric window and door locks, back up camera and more. These vehicles came from police agencies from all over the state and the ones I looked over appeared well maintained.
When I arrived I was met by Tony who managed the dealership. Tony asked me what I was looking for and what purpose the vehicle would be used for. I told him it would be a daily driver and none of the police equipment would be needed. I've spent half my life in a police vehicle (front seat) and I'm not interested in working road jobs anymore. Many of his vehicles are sold to active law enforcement officers for working extra employment.
Tony was a very friendly guy and was very easy to work with. There was never any pressure. He showed me a few vehicles that met my needs and offered to change some things like tires, wheels or consoles. I was able to drive the two vehicles that I liked the best. I chose a 2015 Tahoe with lower mileage than most on the lot that had factory alloy wheels with new tires that were sportier than the standard police package wheels. The police console had been removed and replaced with factory console. The info center screen on the radio was not working properly so Tony sent it to the Chevrolet Dealership where they replaced the whole radio unit and everything was working correctly. Tony even replaced a worn drivers seat cover.
This is one of the most painless car deals I've made in my life. I appreciate both Tony and Maria who handled the paperwork and coordinated with my bank for making this experience so pleasant. I still can't believe that I was able to purchase such a nice vehicle at a fair price that fell within my predetermined price limit. I've been driving my Tahoe for three weeks now and couldn't be more...
Read moreI have been trying to sit down and write this for a few months now and just haven't had the time. I recently went through hell trying to find a descent work car because car prices have been through the roof. I had a friend of mind suggest to me to check out retired police cars, and at first I thought that I didn't want to be "that guy" cruising around in a retired cop car. But due to the fact that car values have been insane and I was being backed into a corner trying to find a vehicle I reached out to Chiefs Auto Group in hopes of finding a descent vehicle. I reached out to Chief's and JR ended up being my salesman. I told him what I wanted and he found just that. Not only was the process quick and easy, although I had financing already set up. The vehicle I purchased has been amazing. I ended up purchasing a 2016 Taurus, which is what I asked for, with extremely low miles and hours for being a retired police car. I have only had one issue with the purchase and to be 100% fair, it is my fault. I didn't do too much research on the Taurus before I bought it, I just assumed I would be happy with it, and for the most part I am. But due to the fact I drive 48 miles one way to work, for me being a heavier and taller guy, it is a bit uncomfortable after driving it a while and I really wish I would have considered that going to a car after being in a truck for so long, and to be honest, I really think JR warned me about it and offered me to look at a Tahoe or Explorer but I was more so worried about the gas price/mileage difference, which now in after driving it a few months isn't really that much better than the SUV. I have considered trading the car in but besides the comfort it truly is a damn good running car. Now days that is hard to find. Other than that, actually dealing with the dealer was truly quick and easy. I drove up from Pearland, test drove the vehicle, and was out of there in less than 30 minutes. If you are in the market for a vehicle and do not want to spend a crazy amount of money for one, I highly recommend giving these...
