I brought a baby raccoon to wings. It was a generally pleasant experience. I enjoyed speaking with Marie. She seemed really down to earth. And I wanted to give her a hug to be honest.. sometimes the walls around our hearts are too hard and we cannot be soft. And yes. Humans suck. It’s more easy to be soft with no. Humans. Unfortunately there baby raccoon had passed by the time I got there. The baby raccoon was attacked by another animal pretty bad and death was a likely scenario no matter what. Besides that .. I want to come to the defense of tje lady running Wings. there’s many people leaving unfair comments here. Caring a for any human is difficult nevermind a non-human. When I was late teens/early twenties I started learning veterinary evidencing because I’d always wanted to be a vet since I was a little girl because I adored animals. Until I learned how sad it can be. Animals differ so much sometimes and there is no protection for animals as exists with humans. If you suffer a broken leg you as a Joan have LUXURY of going to an emergency room and the doctors/hospital cannot turn you away just because you cannot pay for the care. However. … to government have an agreement with those care facilities to do so. Because you are human. However there are not agreements like this regarding non-humans. And this is why I never fulfilled my original dream of being a doctor to help animals. Injured animals are left to die and there’s no laws to help them through taxes, like humans have.
To save any animals life takes TIME, LOVE, ENERGY.. and HEART(love). The worst part about the process is getting a broken heart. Imagine spending weeks trying to save an animals life and then you wake up and rge animal is dead. It’s literally HEART BREAKING. now imagine doing that your whole life.
So if the lady of wings is a little harsh sounding sound tone she is entitled to that.Old go out on a limb and say she’s most likely an amazing person with a bro heart and GOD BLESS her. I admire strong people and especially strong women. There are no words to describe the strength it takes to endure hardships of the heart. We need more people willing to do...
Read moreI found a baby bird on the cold cement floor in outside garden at Lowe’s and placed it in the base of a plant for protection from carts & people. As the day went on, I couldn’t stop worrying about him, and on my lunch break I Google searched a place to bring him …
I put gloves on and boxed him up in his little ambulance and protected him at the paint desk until the end of my shift, then drove him very carefully out to Wings Wildlife Rehab. I kept my A/C low, my music quiet, and I talked to him the whole way.
It was raining when we arrived so I put a hat over the box to carry him inside. Maria met us outside, reached her hand into my ambulance and pulled him out. Immediately said he was a little 7-8 day old sparrow, and started rubbing his eyes, which caused him to chirp and squawk.
Finding this little guy today was not a coincidence. It was my last full-time day at Lowe’s, before I begin a Health teaching position Thursday. As it turns out, sparrows are considered to be messengers of good luck in some cultures, or signs of a new beginning.
Maria & this bird rehab center are a blessing to our community and we should be grateful to the services she provides. I named him after the place where I found him … the last three letters of Lowe’s. (Wes). My lucky little sparrow.
Thank...
Read moreI was so happy I contacted maria. I found 2 baby squirrels in my yard called 5 different places all closed at 4 and were not able to help me. Contacted a vet she told me to try and warm them up and put them back where I found them with baby squirrel sounds on my phone and see if mom came back for them. No mom :/ took them in and cleaned them up from the wood fleas they had and warmed them up and fed them that night with a warm water salt as nd sugar mix. The next day I was in tears that I did not know who could help me but I came across Maria's rescue sight and gave her a call. She was glad to take my babies in and when I arrived she was very kind and sweet. The poor women was even stung by a bee in her face and having an allergic reaction but that did not stop her from listening to my problems and taking a look at the babies and another mans hurt dove. I cried I was worried the babies were not going to make it but she reassured me they were in great hands that I did the right thing and took great care of them. She even told me that I could feel free to give her a call and check on them. Later on that night I called her to see how she was feeling and she was very sweet and even told me she just fed the babies that they were...
