I’d been looking for a non-toxic sleep mask when I stopped at Lenz Gifts on a trip. I appreciated that Fred looked at product inserts with me. I leaned towards a black mask, which only came in the men’s version. Fred said it was identical to the women’s so I bought it. (The mask cost $57.50. It was $7.50 more than online, but I’ve tried to support local businesses.) The men’s version turned out to be larger for men (it fell right off me). I called Fred; he told me to put it in the mail. I asked if he’d reimburse the shipping; he said “yes.” I took it to a Georgia post office that same day, but they couldn’t find the store’s street address in their system. I called/texted to confirm the mailing address, but didn't hear back. I took the package with me and followed up for the correct mailing address... no response. Two weeks later, I tracked down Fred’s email address. I messaged that, if I didn’t hear back from him, I’d need to contest the mask charge with my credit card company. He replied with a PO Box, saying he’d been out of town. I emailed back, asking how he would reimburse the postage… no response. I emailed again, asking for a mailing label so I could send the mask back (or I'd need to contest the charge)… no response. I reached out to my credit card company who eventually credited me for the purchase... but I had to send the mask back. I put a note in the return package, asking Fred to please reimburse the postage via PayPal or Zelle. A week after its delivery, I emailed him to please send the $9.95. Fred emailed back: “Yes I have received the eye mask thank you fred” - It’s been eleven days since that note: no postage reimbursement. - Sadly, I won’t think the same about supporting local businesses after this experience, especially...
