Black Hills National Forest — Local services in Hill City

We did an overlanding trip through SD in Sept. 2022 and had an amazing experience exploring the woods of the Black Hills National Forest. Honestly, I prefer these woods over the badlands. One of our favorite dispersed camping sites was southwest of Lead near Cheyenne Crossing, and man, it was SO BEAUTIFUL. So many wildflowers and we could see the Milky Way at 11:30 PM. 10/10 recommend exploring these woods....

Loved driving through it. Lakes are beautiful and clean. A great spot and there is so much to do. Do carry a map to make sure you are visiting all points of interest and you can choose where to take a stop as well. Pactola lake in Black Hills Forest is one of the most beautiful lake. Extraordinary views with an amazing scenery of the Buffaloes! Black Hills National Forest is located in southwestern South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, United States.
