Karnes Orchard — Local services in Hillsboro

This place is fantastic if you're looking for an easy experience with less walking than some of the larger venues. We discovered this place when another orchards open house didn't offer picking last year and didn't tell anyone until after you showed up. Karnes is full of super friendly and super helpful employees and the fry pies and cider slushies are to die for! Always plenty of delicious varieties of apples to choose from, but make sure you check first to see if the variety you're looking for is active for picking. Our kids had a blast, and we've made this our new family...

Can we just talk about the Fry Pies for a second please? I was out there last weekend and bought one of the peach and one of the apple and now I am so bummed that I didn’t buy more. Really really good! The whole experience was great and I’ve been to Karnes before, but I had never noticed these in the past and I was so impressed with them. I’m somewhat tempted to drive 2 hours just to get more because they are so much better than what I can make....

The apples are amazing, the building is nicely done. The orchard is pretty. The staff however, could use some improvement. Maybe it's how we look, because they seem to greet other customers, but not us. Come to think of it, I've never been greeted there, hmmmm, makes me wonder. Normally, we buy apples and cider, this time we left without buying, due to their rudeness. Maybe they'll read this and learn to be kind to EVERYONE! I might try...
