Not pleased with the service provided last night. My Mother and I arrived at the emergency room around 4:15 pm yesterday afternoon. My Mother needed to be seen for respiratory complications. My mother was checked in and seated by 4:30 pm. Fully understanding that other patients had arrived before us we waited extremely patiently me watching a movie on my tablet while she watched videos on her phone. One after another all the patience that were present before us were seen then a second round arrived. At 1 hour and 15 minutes she was worried because her breathing had worsened. Under what little stress she had if she went to the nurse's desk and asked what was taking so long very kindly, they said she would been seen soon so we waited. After completing the 1 hour and 30 minutes movie I had been watching I begin to worry due to the discoloration in my mother's face. We decided to wait a little longer. By the time I started to express my concern about the wait time I hadn't noticed the time. And I decided to check my tablet to take note of it. It was then 7:35 pm because of the fact that I verbally expressed my worry my mother was seen and she was unable to speak or walk under her own ability. We are Black Americans, with nurses in our family so we understand that paperwork must be completed, and procedures need to be met. Many of the nurses there are also black Americans and we assume the best. However we feel that the wait time is extreme for potential respiratory failure. After she began to be seen for her issue it took an additional 2 hours before she received a nebulizer treatment. With it being administered at 9:43 pm. She was only given 1 treatment and was not given anything else to help get her through the remainder of the evening and morning until we were able to get to out local CVS pharmacy. We were discharged around 11 pm. The nurses at the entrance were trying to be helpful but only after we expressed our concerns about two times. We are very disappointed and displeased with the wait time given the severity of the situation. I am writing this review in request that the staff is more attentive to the needs of patients. Had I not started to express my concerns when I did there is no telling the outcome. Please do better. We go to UNC hospital because we are from Chapel Hill originally and most of our medical records are in the UNC medical system. We have had great experiences before at the facility in Chapel Hill but we now live in Burlington and we've had absolutely horrible experiences with Cone Health. We will continue to go to UNC because overall the treatment there has been better than the hospital in Alamance county and we know they can do better.
I had to visit them again on Sept 8, 2024 for myself. I am currently having complications breathing and was given basic respatory tests, then told that my lungs were "fantastic" regardless of the fact that I am incapable of taking in a full breath of air. I revisited the facility because I want to trust them. However, being sent home unable to breathe and told "you are find" isn't okay. I don't wright review for attention, I write them because I feel that everyone should be treated fairly and with the same courtesy. We are all human beings. I was told they only did the basic respiratory test because more detailed tests were "REALLY EXPENSIVE" which feels like they are saying the cost out weighs my life. Also, I wasn't given an opportunity to review my ex-ray and it explained to me. It seems like everytime I've gone there hoping for a redemption of the facility something else happens. It seems like they are also being extremely selective as to who they are willing to help. Therefore, I am going...
Read moreMy husband has been to this hospital 3 times in nine months--once for hip surgery, twice to the emergency room (once for a large cut, once for an unexplained fever) and one admission for a severe infection. I highly recommend this hospital. Both times we have been to the emergency room, there was hardly any wait time (both were walk-in visits, not in an ambulance). The emergency department is very nicely set up. Each person gets a large private room with every conceivable gadget--no gurneys in the halls like at UNC Chapel Hill, no curtains between emergency room beds, no 4 hour waits in a dirty lobby. Everything in this hospital is spotless and new. Emergency department care was excellent both times--I think this is not a trauma center, so you're not put on an endless wait because a helicopter with a bunch of mangled people just landed.. All nurses and doctors have been very professional, with a great bedside manner, very caring and competent. We even got a "private" waiting room while waiting for an emergency room to become available because my husband is immuno-compromised. Doctors and nurses explain everything and aren't rushed. As an inpatient, both times my husband had a very large private room, with a hospital bed, a large reclining chair, a couch along the wall where a visitor could lay down, a desk and chair if you have to bring work from home while there (not kidding here), large private bathroom, large windows with beautiful views of the woods around the hospital, great large TV with lots of channels, and a menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner that is like a restaurant menu--an incredible variety of things to choose from, which are well prepared and taste good. Everything about this hospital is beautiful and impressive, from the parking lot to the lobby to the elevators to the cafeteria for visitors. I highly recommend this hospital for emergency room care (ten times better than Duke or UNC CHapel Hill, unless you need a trauma center) and...
Read moreUpdated Feb 13, 2023 and gave them 5 stars. Rehabilitation and medical services were excellent. The Rehab unit is two floors, new in 2022, with stunning views, large, clean rooms, and excellent care.
My wife had two separate stays for rehab at this facility. It became clear that the nursing. medical, and rehab care was excellent. After some later experience with "Skilled Nursing Facilities" in the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina, UNC Hillsborough looks very good, indeed.
I did call out the food service issues in my original post. However, I did speak with the director of Food Service and the issues were promptly and courteously resolved.
Billing for my wife's stays turned out to be a non-issue. It was handled correctly and efficiently.
I'm happy to recommend this facility for any medical or rehabilitation needs. Given the good care I hate to complain, but there are some areas where this facility needs to make changes.
Food service is poor. Inpatient food delivery is hit-or-miss, mainly miss. Items are forgotten, fruit portions tiny. A serving of grapes consists of 4 grapes! Sometimes patient meals do not arrive at all.
The pharmacy is utterly incompetent at dealing with insurance. I will not bore the reader with details of our experience.
I have not received a bill for my wife's care. I'm dreading that, given my poor experience with UNC...
