I had 6 cubic yards of pallet waste to dispose of in a 12 ft dump trailer. I was expecting to dispose of it during the week, have google guide me there, pay the advertised fee or maybe 50% extra, and quickly drop the load via the dump feature. But I had to go on a weekend, google couldn't guide me there, I had to haggle to only pay 50% extra, and had to hand-unload the entire trailer.
Here are the details:
I assumed they were open during the week. Hours of operation were not posted online. I called and they were closed during the week and only open on the weekends.
Directions to the place do not include an address nor GPS coordinates. They are landmark directions.
When following the landmark directions, I was expecting to see a sign with a similar logo to what is on the website. Nothing similar exists. I went to the Castroville location and there was an ancient sign about 12"x18" which said something about Medina County Disposal. Needless to say, I didn't see the sign and had to call to confirm their location.
Once I got there, their rate for a 12' trailer is $40. I consider this to be a good value. He mentions on the website there is an overage charge if it is "over the rails". There is no mention as to how this overage is calculated nor what "over the rails" means. I have a 2' walled dump trailer and had it stacked over the walls(about 2000 lb of wood). He said it was $80 to dump it. For reference, New Earth charges $75 for an 18' trailer with 160 pallets on it (5400 lb) so this place is now grossly overcharging in my opinion. We finally got to the definition of "over the rails". It is the height of the rails of a flat bed utility trailer which are about 12" tall. That definition would be nice to know before going there along with some way to estimate the overage charge.
So we agreed on $60 to dump and he shows me to dump it in a roll-off bin. But there is no ramp to get to the top of the bin; you have to hand unload everything. So I have this fancy dump trailer capable of dropping the whole load in 30 seconds but instead I have to spend 30 minutes throwing each plank of broken pallet into the roll-off bin. The landfill lets you use the dump feature, New Earth lets you use the dump feature, but this place can't handle it.
So with no operating hours posted, primarily weekend hours, no direct address, poor signage, non-transparent volume and overage charges, and hand-unloading only, I will never be going there again. If you have anything more than a truck-bed amount of bagged trash, go somewhere else or be prepared to spend a lot of...
