Cool A-frame with lots of history. It was in the middle of remodel when I visited on 8/20/18. Lots of picnic tables around the building. Beautiful forrest. There is the tilly jane creek nearby. Close to timberline trail and mt hood glaciers. Not a scary place. I saw a group of guys camping here on my way up to the Tilly jane/cooper spur trail. They do suggest that if you can hike the little ways to the vault toilet st tilly jane campground as that toilet is maintained by the forrest service. The toilets at the a-frame are not and once they fill up that may be it.

Cozy, lots of room, lots of places to hang wet clothes and gear, darling little veranda on the second floor, best backwoods bathroom I've ever used. The firewood stove is a true delight, providing warmth and beauty and ambience. Step ladder to the loft above. Mice or rats are definitely a problem, but lots of hooks to hang your food and a steel locker that worked great! Outdoor picnic tables. Stream for filtering water. Excellent Basecamp for climbing Hood via Cooper Spur.

Cool structure always takes a little bit longer than expected to skin to but worth it! The ride down is also faster than expected. ⛷️🏂Would love to check out the inside sometime. The door's locked unless you rent it cuz of historic vandalism

3 Stars, but it's not the cabin's fault.

There are things about the A-frame which are incredible. It's remote, it's rustic and it has a view of the sunset from the top balcony.

However, our enjoyment of these things was tempered by the sense that the witch from Hansel and Gretel was waiting with her oven on the other side of the metal gate barring the entrance.

You know those bad horror movies where the group keeps doing the very things that will lead to their grisly demise? And you are yelling at them, "No! Don't lock yourself in that closet!"

After about 20 minutes at TJAF, I felt like we had written the script for that horror B-movie. It's getting dark, all alone in the woods, look honey, a cabin! But it's locked... don't worry we have the code. Let's lock ourselves in, turn on the lanterns, and sleep upstairs where there is no escape. Time to turn out the lights. Don't worry, I'm sure nothing bad will happen. I locked the door. No one can get in...

We left about as soon as we arrived.

Maybe I'm a wuss. Can't say you're wrong. But, I did survive to write this review.

We've been camping in isolated spots before, and so this wasn't necessarily anything new. But man, did it feel like we were in a bad way. To be honest, this experience has resulted some soul searching regarding my constitution and courage.

Judging by the piles of lumber, siding and shingles on site, it looks like the TJAF is about to get a face lift. This is a plus. I hope TJAF lives on for generations. And maybe it's a totally different experience in the winter when there is likely more activity in the area. We'll leave that to others to determine.

We love Oregon, and we love the history behind this place. IT won't be for us, but long...
