Don't sleep on this place just because of it's location. While, yes, it's in a gas station, they have a massive kitchen facility hidden in the back that's very nice and very clean. Our family has gotten food from here a few times now and it's top tier in comparison to other German options in the area. Plus, it's very affordable for the portions you get.
Now, for the menu items we have ordered so far: The pork Jägerschnitzel is king here. It's very traditional and very flavorful. The Jägersauce is some of the best I've had...outside of mine :). To get a homemade sauce like this in a restaurant style setting is very abnormal. The chicken Jägerschnitzel is a newer option here. I was glad to see they added it since chicken schnitzel is more popular with our family. Unfortunately, you can tell corners were cut in the preparations with it. It's not as thin as traditional schnitzels and even the breading seemed different but I think that's because the juices flow from the meat different when it's not flattened as much. I know chicken schnitzel isn't traditional anyways but normally if you flatten it more it turns out more like the pork. For now, I suggest getting the pork schnitzel. The bratwurst on Brotchen is very good. It's a little smaller this last time but still tasty. My son loves it. If the owners see this, I recommend the Bratwurst from Kinlaws, they are bigger and fairly cheap for the size. The spatzle is amazing. You can tell it's homemade and not just a store bought product. Again, this is very surprising to see in a restaurant style setting. I will suggest spending the extra to get a side of Jägersauce to add to it. The red cabbage is a sweet take on it. I'm use to the non-sweeter version but I will say it's a refreshing variant that we really enjoyed. The potato salad is also a little different than I have had but again, very good. It's hard for me to say if it's traditional or not because potato salad is one of those regional type of things in Germany. Kind of like BBQ in the US. Goulash is another one of those regional type dishes. Most people know of the Hungarian Gulasch with noodles instead of potatoes and usually no peppers. Some know Vienna Goulash where you use tomato paste, potatoes, red peppers, and a bunch of paprika. Personally, my favorite is the middle Germany version that's just meat and broth without peppers or tomato paste. Here, they have the Vienna version. If you like that version, you will love it. It's very traditional and very flavorful.
All in all, this place is amazing and affordable. This could be a weekly staple in our household. So far it has been the...
Read moreI had wanted to check this place out for quite a while and today I finally made the 70+ mile drive to Fayetteville. The place's name translates to "Grandma's House of Schnitzels"; however, this is not a restaurant but a section in a gas station with the actual kitchen being in a separate room in the back. Note that there's no opportunity to eat in. It's either take out or delivery. The owners are a German/American couple. She (Tamara) is from the Frankfurt area and thus the food IMO is more German than in many other "German" restaurants that are mostly inspired by Bavarian style dishes (which - unless you are from Bavaria - can sometimes be a bit challenging to the taste buds). I sampled the Gulash which was excellent. Red cabbage, French fries, garlic and Jaeger sauces were on the point. I ordered the Onion Schnitzel with Spaetzle (South German style pasta) which I just finished eating and it was sooo good. I will definitely come back to try...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful experience at Oma’s Schnitzel Haus! My boyfriend is German, and we were so excited to try authentic German food—and this place did not disappoint. The owners, Tamara and Mark, welcomed us so warmly. Tamara, who was born and raised in Germany, took the time to let us sample different dishes, and everything was absolutely delicious.
Even though it’s takeout and delivery only, the food is homemade from scratch, cooked fresh when you order, and it really tastes like something you’d get in a traditional German kitchen. The flavors are authentic, the ingredients are high quality, and you can tell it’s made with care. The prices are very fair, the portions are generous, and everything feels healthy and homemade—not fast food at all.
If you’re curious about trying real German cuisine or just want a comforting, flavorful meal, I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a hidden gem and...
