Wilson Electric — Local services in Hot Springs

11.4 KW solar system, roof mounted. Three contractors called. The two Rapid City contractors took over a week just to call me back. Todd called me the next day and drove up from Hot Springs two days later to look at the layout and discuss what I wanted. He told me with what I wanted I could not go off grid. He also made it clear I would still have to pay full price for power that came from Black Hill Energy (about 11-12 cents a KWH) but would get less than 3 cents for any power I dumped back into the grid. (South Dakota being one of the least friendly to home solar units.) We figured I would save about $100-150 a month which is far better than the 2% interest I was getting off my money in a savings account. He supplied info and firm prices on three different systems. I went with one that had better shade resistant panels so the output would be more consistent. The shippers sucked! Four pallets were sent out from Sacramento, CA on a Thursday. By Monday three pallets were lost and only one was in Rapid City. Todd did a lot of calling to track the missing pallets down. It took over a week to get them all here. That put us a week behind schedule. Todd really worked hard to get us back on schedule, which he did. For a week straight he and his crew showed up at 7:45-8:00 AM and worked all day, only packing up when it rained or got dark. We were all set for final inspection by the state and turn on with the BHE. Even though Todd coordinated with them ahead of time and on a daily basis we had to wait three days for the inspector. Everything passed with flying colors then we had another delay waiting for BHE to come out and switch the meter. Of course we had some snow and lots of cloud cover so I did not get an immediate blast of power. (Typical South Dakota weather.) Todd put extra effort into making it look nice with no excess metal, wire or parts sticking out. All internal wiring was inside metal conduit firmly attached to studs. As he accessed the breaker box he gave it a look over and found an issue missed by the previous electrician. He fixed that for free. If you are interested in solar give Todd a call. Buyer beware. Wilson Electric started a residential job for us during the fall/winter of 2022 and 2023. Todd Wilson stated that after the ground thawed, they would be back in the spring to bury the electrical wires running from the house to the shop and to the submersible pump from the cistern. In April of 2023 I received an invoice. The last line item stated "Wrap up project" $$$. I paid the invoice in full, trusting they would be out soon to do just that. April went by, they did not show. My girlfriend and I tried to contact Wilson Electric. On May 6th 2023 they stated they had received our call and texts but were extremely busy and would be a couple weeks before they could get there to finish up. Three weeks later my girlfriend texted them again because it was holding up our other projects. On May 27th she texted again. We got back this response quote "Your in line. Or we wont be offended, call someone else who has nothing to do". Again we had paid them in full. We asked for money back for work not completed. Todd Wilson stated quote " I never charged for any work not completed". Attached are pictures of uncompleted work that we were charged for. There are more item after the inspector showed us the code violations. So now Wilson texted my girlfriend quote " I recommend at this point since you have become ASSERTIVE, going elsewhere" He has not contacted us since. I am not sure what that means unless he is intimidated by assertive women? Does he prefer timid and submissive? The state inspector informed us that there are several code violations. Wow!!! Where do I begin? Super super individuals to deal with and talk with. A fantastic, and I mean FANTASTIC PRICE! cross that with paying attention to detail and very thorough job, proper permits, codes, etc, you have what I feel could be the best electrician in this area, and I've used several Todd is the owner and is the friendliest happy go lucky down to earth person along with his wife who is exactly the same way and a great hand herself . They also love animals and while we were gone while we had no power, she was letting the dogs in and out ,giving them and the cats attention lol!!!
