First time student here, I’ve been in process to begin my first set of courses here and I would say theres a 50/50 chance that when you come in or call over the phone to receive advising, that person who responds may or may not be helpful. Ive called this morning in regard to finding out the status of my financial aid and what should I do next… I was in a rude interaction with very unhelpful man who answered the academic advising line. There were moments of awkward silence when I was asking questions and he would simply have nothing helpful to say. He even attempted to jab a smart comment to me and I asked to speak w someone more helpful then he transferred the call to business which was also a rude man. He was unhelpful and even said “have a blessed day” after he did not bless with help. Even while i noticed his attitude I explained that i had not been frustrated only confused because this is my first time going through this experience as i never been a student and i intend to gain more information to make wise decisions. To which all the vulnerability he gave me no response. I was left feeling judged, and belittled. I hope that we can have more females to answer calls and that they will be properly trained on how to be a helpful member of the college business side. The first person who I initially spoke with on this call was in Financial aid he was genuine helpful and sounded full of joy, leaving me w some reason to be thankful . I have hopes that there are some helpful staff but wish that the rest could follow that example. Being helpful and non-prejudice would make school feel less fear inducing and more welcoming. Going to college as a freshman is not necessarily a walk in the park and everyone should be encouraged to go to school, but that will take an encouraging attitude from everyone involved.
Ps: after reading peer reviews, it seems im not alone in this experience of discrimination neglect and belittling at this location. I believe in standing against it. Better together. There will be change. No more careless attitudes and condescending tones, or slick remarks. People will act orderly with honor and good intentions. There will be helpfulness and kindness and great customer service. Society will change for the better...
Read moreSome of the teachers are great but a majority of mine has been average. Online classes I only had one professor that I could get a hold of out of the 7 classes that I've taken in online classes. And the admit is notorious for being horrible. I knew a few that would go all the way to the north Harris campus to have their paperwork worked on there. Out of the 5 semesters I've spent there I didn't have a single semester that everything went smooth. I'm not even going this summer semester and I'm still having issues with their admit. The Veterans Affairs is horrendous. Every semester I've had issues with the school sitting on or flat out lossing my paperwork and every time they would lie too me about my stuff being turned into the regional office. I got to the point where I would have a check list that I would ask the regional office before I even called the Lonestar campus because they would always try to shove you off and make you think that they've done thier part I was just waiting on the federal government to pay them. I've even had a person that they hired call my phone one semester to tell me that the payment due date was a certain day and if I didn't pay by that time I would be dropped out of all classes... They took the time to see that I didn't pay but didn't take two extra seconds to see that my account was on a vetrans hold and couldn't be dropped since they've received my paperwork. Took about 45 minutes to figure out if I was getting dropped or not. But like I said there are a few...
Read moreI graduated from this college many moons ago and it was a decent college back then. So now I have my son going, he has Aspergers Syndrome and struggles with socializing and communication. The testing department was amazing and very helpful. But once we tried getting him accommodations that's when the trouble started. It has taken over a year to finally get those going! It takes weeks to hear back! The academic advisors are good but the business and financial aid reminds me of going to the post office! He has had one good teacher. One who bothered to call his advisor who called me and has genuinely helped. The welding teacher was rude, disrespectful and failed many times to communicate! He missed a whole week of work then tells my son the wrong day for the final! He failed my son and my son became very depressed. He quit school, quit life. He's been denied financial aid and when I appealed it they asked me how does high functioning autism and adhd affect learning? How in the world is someone in education and does not know this? My son finally got into a therapist and psychologist so he's finally getting his accommodations but I turned in another appeal for financial aid at Kingwood College and when I called a month later, THEY'VE LOST THE APPEAL! I'm about ready to report this violation of ADA Law and place him in a better community college because he...
