I am reluctant to post this review because I view the show as a COMPLETE experience. Yesterday, we were directed to park in the designated handicap parking area which, ironically was FURTHEST POINT from the main staging area. But the coup de grace was the FACT that it took us 2 hours and 44 minutes to LEAVE the event - a distance of less than two miles from the main road to where we were instructed to park. I will say that again just in case you missed it; NEARLY THREE HOURS TO LEAVE THE EVENT. For nearly 2 hours we sat absolutely motionless. We asked event coordinators to intercede. They either REFUSED or said, "we don't know who you can call." Then we asked Ellington Security to help direct traffic. They told us "That directing traffic wasn't their job." We called the Houston police but they said that can't help us - even though the main bottle neck was the point of egress to the public road , which WAS their jurisdiction. Finally, we saw a Houston police officer near the security gate approximately 50 feet from where we sat parked for two hours. We tried to wave him down to see if he would intercede. He first REFUSED to roll down his window. When we finally got him to roll down his window, he said, "Can't help you" and rolled up his window. This is an abject failure of the event coordinators. The excuse that their "were a lot of people" doesn't fly. 100,000 people can leave a Texas A&M event in about 35 minutes. Our area only had about 10,000 on our side of the parking lot. I am writing not only to point out the abject failure of planning for parking contingencies for this event but the FACT that because of both sides of the road were blocked going only one direction, this presented a HUGE safety issue for anyone who may have needed assistance. Simply stated, had someone needed medical attention, they would have been blocked from getting critical care because the entire Brantley road was congested for over 2+ hours!! At public events it is reasonable to assume that one might have to wait to exit the facility. Nearly three hours of waiting in line is not only terrible planning but more importantly, completely UNSAFE. Planning event coordinators should be grateful no one needed...
Read moreMy son's class posted a flyer that the WOH airshow was looking for volunteers to help as parking attendants, for volunteering you are given the option to attend the airshow at no cost, lunch and a ball cap after your shift. We arrived at 5:19am and were told there wasn't enough ball caps for everyone there Saturday, because they need to save some for Sunday. So we completed our shift and were told there were not anymore tickets to Saturdays show only Sunday. So I asked can we get Sunday ticket and was told they are for the people who volunteer on Sunday. When you sign up there is a list, they should ensure there is enough tickets/caps for everyone who signs up. There honestly wasn't a lot of people (20 maybe)who signed up and not all even showed but if you ask people to volunteer there time especially on an early weekend please be considerate enough to hold up your end of...
Read moreFirst time there and I have been to a lot of airshows. The food prices are ridiculous...be prepared. The merch is super expensive...be prepared. So why the 5 stars? The PEOPLE running the show are FANTASTIC....so happy, so cheery, so welcoming. all of them, no matter what their job or role are very very friendly and helpful. Great selection of flying acts and they keep it moving. Very little dead space. Facilities are CLEAN and well kept. You don't have to sit on grass or in the mud people! (like every other show I have been to all over the nation)
Loved the RC flying at the beginning...super cool.
Was disappointed that none of the corsairs or other WWII fighters flew....but I know there is only so much time. We will be back!
CHRIS....what are the main differences in the show now vs the past that...
