This was part of Hudson Old Homes Days. There was a carnival with booths, food, bands, and fireworks on the day I went. The fireworks were pretty amazing and I am someone who doesn't particularly care for them usually.
Although I did not go into the house the last time I went, I have gone into it before when my aunt and I used to decorate it during the holidays. It is now used as a local Historical Society.
The story of the house is rather interesting. Dr. Albert Hills and his wife Ida Virginia Hills were very much in love. Dr. Albert Hills was born in Hudson, NH.
He had this house built by a Boston architect in the late 1800s as their summer home.
He presented the house to his wife as a Christmas present. They named the house a combination of their first names- ALVirne.
They had two daughters who died in infancy.
The school across the street from the house bears their name -Alvirne High School.
Down the road, there is a stone chapel named Alvirne Chapel. Alvirne Chapel is a medieval (perhaps Tudor), stone chapel that seems very popular for small weddings.
Dr. Albert, Virginia, and their two infant daughters are buried in the floor of...
Read moreLook man, everyone who works here is amazing and sweet and nice, and please let me preface im not into history, but this was not interesting at all. I think it would be way better but the idea behind how this whole thing works is just weird? I guess. You see this old house and it’s cool and it’s “The Hills House” ooo cool. Then it’s like just a collection of stuff from the community, which is cool but not exciting. The house had parts blocked off and “being done” no problem but the house doesn’t feel like it’s preserved as much as it’s lead on to be. This is a good trip to get an inside of how people lived 100-200 years ago, nothing more in my opinion. Was a cute trip but not that intriguing to me personally. Im only give this 5 star because everyone who works here was excited and nice about what they work on and showing...
Read moreWe were here for Old Home Days. While the rides were certainly better than in years past, the prices have more than doubled. $9 will get you 6 tickets for rides, and most rides cost a minimum of 3 tickets. When I went a few years ago, it was around 1-2 tickets at the most. Adults need to accompany children on rides and need to provide tickets for themselves and the children.
With that in mind, my nephew and I only got to do 2 rides and I went with him pick which ones. He even found a new kind of ride he loves, and wants to try it's counterpart at Canobie.
The Petting Zoo was by far, a favorite for my nephew and I. They had so many unique animals including an Alpaca, a donkey, and even goats! The pony rides cost extra, but the Petting...
