Earlier today we traveled from out of town to get the “amazing” buying experience at Smokey Mountain that was described to us by several friends and family members. My fiancé and I were very excited to check them out and hopefully take some stuff, specifically a sofa and end table set we had found on their website which we just LOVED, back home with us to furnish our new apartment. Walking in it was everything that had been described to us- beautiful decor, low prices, friendly greetings from staff. We were very optimistic at this point. It wasn’t until our sales person, Summer, got rude with us (for no apparent reason!) that I realized we wouldn’t be buying from the store that had been so hyped up to us. We figured out that she was new and “in training”, so we could have been patient with a learning curve or basic mistakes. But when we showed her the pictures from the website and asked if she had the sofa and tables she said “I’m new so I don’t know but you can look around and if you find them let me know” umm ok, shouldn’t that be your job? Or at least ask someone? But sure, we wanted to browse anyways and some people are hard to read so we figured (hoped) maybe it wasn’t said with any intentional snarky-ness. Yet when we approached her after quite some time of searching (because not once did she check to see if we had found it, even though she walked by us multiple times), she actually rolled her eyes and said “well if you don’t see it out here then that should tell ya we don’t have it” and just stood there in front of us with her arms crossed. I can’t even explain the sheer lack of curtesy and blatant disrespect with which we were treated! It seemed to be a busy Saturday for them, so we had already prepped ourselves to be patient. But this wasn’t a technical issue. Learning while “in training”, I can get. An attitude like that is not something you can un-teach, however, so in our shock we walked out empty-handed. In hindsight I should have sought out a manager at that moment and informed them of the situation. But we were literally so flustered and bothered by this experience that we couldn’t even think of a response to her smirk, let alone a formal complaint as I am now lodging. My aunt had GREAT things to say about the store and her sales person, Samantha (I recall because we had the same name. Obviously I should have asked for her). I wish we had been treated the same! Smokey Mountain, you have too much nice furniture people would like to buy, that you will instead be losing due to your choice to allow conduct like that in your workplace. I’m a pretty understanding person and I can understand people being new or even just having a bad day sometimes. But to go out of your way to be rude when we were nice and patient with you after the first encounter?? Completely baffling. As someone who deals with the public at an establishment renown for our customer service, I can tell you that we would never tolerate that and it’s a poor reflection upon your business, to...
Read moreWe had bought furniture from this same place 18 years ago and had an awesome experience and the furniture was very good quality, that is why we decided to go back. I will say the young lady that helped us the day we purchased our furniture was nice and helpful. The reason I gave them a 2 star was because of the service we received on the day we picked up our furniture. We ordered this furniture the last of Dec. and waited 8 weeks for it to get here. When they called I asked if they could deliver it and I was told yes that it would be $150 and at least 10 days or more. I said that was ok we would come get it. We drove 1 hour to pick it up to only get there and they didn't have anyone except women to load a heavy couch, solid wood buffet table, and a rocker recliner. My husband had backed our trailer up to the loading dock and proceeded to help load the items. The lady couldn't pick the couch up so she began to slide it across the ramp of an enclosed trailer that has a skid plate. My husband told her that wasn't going to work because you can't slide it across the plate without tearing up the furniture and it would fall into the groove where the door folds up. Her reply was "we do it like this all the time." He told her not with my furniture you don't. Then with the recliner she flipped the box up and over as if she didn't care what happened to it. After all the items were loaded and my husband was securing them the manager rudely told him to move his truck out of the way so they could load another customers chair. Really, a chair! I spoke to the manager and asked why they couldn't have waited long enough for him to get the items secured and I was told "that customer shouldn't have to wait on my husband to secure our things down." Very unprofessional! We were very shocked at how we were treated and will not recommend them or ever buy...
Read moreMy husband and I went there to pick out a 2 section electric reclining sofa. When we finally found one, after long walks and lots of looking we came across the one we “ would have brought home”, They had a matching Love seat and Recliner. The lady who was helping us, was very polite until we wouldn’t settle for none of the other higher priced ones.. I wanted that one. “Well, that’s the only one we have”, “ we can order you one but it could be 2 to 6 months to get it??? Ok I said, “ Sell me the one off the floor, you’ll still have the love seat and recliner to show and when the new one comes in, put it back in its spot.. NO!! We can’t do that.. Well let me talk to the manager because she might, “ Well I doubt it and doubt I can find her” Supposedly we found her and I explained how we wasn’t gonna wait that long, but that was the one I wanted. It would be pd for, and she could put the other one when they got it back in its place. NO, NO, we can’t do that!! Needless to say, I told my husband, let’s go to LNB furniture in Marion and forget this.. we walked out.. Never ask me how I feel about that place.. But at LNB furniture I got more sofa than I was looking for and it’s so much nicer, same price to get it delivered to Hickory...
