Okay, it's mid-July 2023 and the peaches here at Cook's Orchard will be ripe in a few weeks and ready for juicy fried hand pies, canning as fruit butter and jam, and simply eating right off the edge of the porch - just don't drip sticky stuff on my clean floors, kids. Sadly, this crop of apples are still growing and not yet quite ready for picking or pressing into cider. But it won't be long, thank God.
Does any of that stop me? HECK, NO... the Cook's Orchard people have lots of farm fresh eggs, canned and jarred preserves and pickles, tasty salad dressings, and all sorts of other fixings and goodies. I stop in often.
BUT - have you been by to pick up a frozen gallon or two of APPLE CIDER?
YES PEOPLE, that wonderful fresh pressed apple cider has been stored in frozen form so addicts like me can enjoy it YEAR-ROUND!!! They do it every year!
I just picked a frosty gallon up this morning and tonight I'm making cider-braised pork chops with a sheet-pan full of parmesan potatoes and grilled veggies. Life is sweet, kiddos (If you know where to get the good stuff)... Make something fun, fill those hungry bellies, and then just pour a cold glass of sumptuous apple cider and go sit in the porch swing and enjoy the fireflies. Those darn old dishes can wait until later. 😁

Read moreI would avoid this place. My husband was taking pictures of myself and our 10 month old daughter. We walked back to our car to look at the pictures to make sure we got good ones and put our camera away before we went back into pick apples. An old lady rudly asked for our plastic apple picking bag back. I explained we were taking a look at our pictures and then going to pick apples. So then she walked up to our car and rudely informed us, we were supposed to call 48 hours ahead of time in case they had sprayed the orchard. I said ok. There were several children and families in the orchard so that obviously was not the case at this day and time. I then proceeded to tell her that she could then take the bag and that we would never come to her business again. She randomly said that we would not know anything about having money. Why? I have know idea. I’m assuming she was trying to accuse us of stealing her apples or maybe her plastic apple picking bag Or she is quite possibly old and senile. Since it was pretty clear we had not brought apples back to our vehicle. Anyway, there are other locally owned orchards in our area that do not harass young families....
Read moreWent today to get slushies and apples. Was told by the older guy working that the slushies are "just for kids" even tho they are $2.00 on the sign. He then said he would let us have them this time. Like what? We stood there in shock because this is not the service we expected. Definitely a disappointment that the slushies are apparently just for kids. They should go through the store and label each item for it's age group. That way it's easier for us to figure out what age we can purchase APPLE PRODUCTS. Gonna try a different orchard next time. Definitely not kid friendly. Just a creepy guy...
