I hiked this during the last week of December and it was beautiful still. Even with the snow and significant under layer of ice it was a great winter hike. I would highly suggest wearing crampons and using poles since the trail is entirely covered with snow at this point. It will make the overall experience significantly easier. I had neither and it was all still possible to complete albeit exhausting. Despite it not being hot you will run through a lot of water because of the extended effort to walk through snow uphill. Bring more water than you anticipate. The trails are quiet and we ran into only three other people on the entirety of our hours spent on the mountain. It's a beautiful way to spend a day! Read moreDefinitely a difficult hike for those not used to steep and rocky inclines, but completely doable for the average hiker. Near the summit there are some sections that require very careful footing and some scrambling, but the trails are marked well and easy to follow.
The summit from Monroe Trail into Alpine then Long Trail North was about 6.7 miles and took me about 5 hours including time to stop and rest and take photos/video. I definitely recommend packing water and food, and an extra layer as the summit is windy and can be quite cold...
Read moreHiked this August 1st ‘19 and it was amazing. We did the Monroe trail. A bit of a challenge because it’s quite a ways to get to the top but it really is an awesome view. We hiked it with our 15 pound cockapoo puppy and he just blasted through the terrain like it was nobody’s business. We met people of all ages along the trail. Really recommended.
