The Corner Store — Local services in Huron Charter Township

Have been coming here since the first day they opened. They have always been friendly. Remember my husband and my kids and ask about them every time I come in. Today however was the last day I will ever visit this store. Imagine my surprise when I was told I could not pull into the parking lot (relatively empty at 10:30am) to take an important phone call. I thought I was making a good choice to park my car and keep myself safe while I handled the phone call. When the owner came outside to take out the trash he kept looking at my car. I made a little wave to say hi expecting that he would recognize me as a pretty regular customer. Maybe 2-3 minutes later he came out again and told me I could not be there it was private property. I explained that I was taking a call for my job and would be coming in to buy a drink before I left. It would only be a few minutes. Couple minutes later he comes out and starts taking pictures of my license plate. He told me I had been warned. I asked if he was calling the police because I was on a call in his parking lot. And he said yes you have been warned. I asked him what happened to the friendly customer service he had always provided. He had no answers other than to tell me I was warned and that I needed to leave. I watched him go back in the store and peer at me through the window for a few minutes. At that time my call was complete and instead of going in to buy a drink from his establishment I left. I could have caused a scene but I didn’t. I have decided that instead I will never spend another penny at his store. I will make sure to tell all of my friends in the community about my experience. I don’t want to do business with anyone who treats people the way he treated me this morning. I was coming off a 12 hour over night shift and had a pressing matter to attend to. I chose to do something safely by pulling over in a parking lot to use my phone and laptop. I understand 15 minute customer parking only but this is the first place i’ve seen have the owner stare at you from the moment you park to the moment you get out of your car. God forbid you’re on the phone with someone that won’t stop talking for more than the given time. I was a pretty consistent customer coming there once or twice a week. The owner saw me talking to someone in my car and even came up to my window to see what was going on. I was on the phone for 25 minutes while there were maybe 3 other cars park and leave in the time i was in my car. After i got off the phone and explained what happened he felt the need to adamantly tell me i couldn’t sit in the parking lot like that. Multiple times. Just not a nice person. Friendly guys, always well stocked. I used to live 1 mile from here. The only thing I miss about my old house, was being right down the street from this great business. If you happen to find their fresh breakfast sandwiches, BUY ONE. They don't have them every single day, but they are SO good. I believe the main 2 guys to be father/son. Great people. And the gentleman who I believe to be the father, Henry I think - he is the guy that makes the awesome sandwiches.
