I started collecting and building lightsabers a decade ago, fell out of it, and just started getting back into it. TCSS was a staple of the market back then and it's just as much a staple now, if not more so.
I could go into great detail about their hilt and internals selection, web tools, and community support on their forums, but I'm going to focus on my recent purchase experience exclusively.
Anyone who's ever bought a custom lightsaber of any sort knows that long lead times are the standard. TCSS estimates a 3 day turn-around for standard parts and a 2 week turn-around for orders with custom parts. I had an order that included custom work, so I expected the 2 week lead time.
About a week and a half in, I wanted to see if they were going to hit the 2 week estimate. To my absolute shock, Josh replied to me in 20 MINUTES and not only confirmed that they weren't incredibly backed up, but addressed the status of my order SPECIFICALLY and estimated that it would ship by the end of the week.
Lo and behold, I got a shipping notification late in the day on Friday and, despite the long weekend, the parts arrived Wednesday afternoon (UPS 3-day to California).
The parts, of course, are beautiful and clean, fit together well, and the threading is smooth and tight, with very few metal shavings and no sharp edges or imperfections that I can find. The delivered parts matched what I ordered exactly and I'm blown away that they were able to meet their estimations so soon after May 4th, a pretty big holiday in the saber scene.
My thanks to Josh and everyone over at TCSS, you guys have been kicking butt for at least ten years and are a great entry point for enthusiasts. I would not hesitate to recommend TCSS to anyone interested in getting into the hobby. They truly lead the market and have driven it forward for at least a decade.
*NOTE: The black gunk in the threads is grease I applied after the fact, not gunk from the manufacturer. The parts...
Read moreThe Custom Saber Shop (TCSS) is one of the reasons that a custom lightsaber community exists. The folks there run a first-rate shop that has created high-quality parts and systems of interchangeable parts for over a decade.
I found the shop in 2013 when a Master Replicas (higher-end, store-bought) saber showed up on my doorstep broken. I found the TCSS Forums, a bulletin-board style forum for makers, tinkerers, and mad geniuses to discuss their projects and methods. I found everything I needed to repair and improve the broken saber. I didn't stop there and will have been immersed in the custom saber world for ten years this autumn (2023).
Their hilt pieces are first-rate, and the possibilities for customizing are endless. TCSS will even powder coat and do custom machining (for a reasonable fee, of course).
They have only improved and expanded, and the custom saber community exists in no small part because of...
Read moreI have been researching building a light saber for about a month or so. I watched a ton of videos from The Custom Saber Shop and took notes. Following their directions I ordered the necessary parts. The customer service guys at TCSS looked over my order and let me know if there were any issues with what I ordered and helped me correct the issues and sent out my parts. Shipping was crazy fast and the parts came in perfect order. i spent the evening building my saber following the directions on the website and it turned out absolutely AWESOME! I cannot say enough good things about these guys. The customer service is top notch! The parts are excellent quality! I highly recommend that if you are into this stuff, to seriously consider TCSS for your saber parts and needs. Thank you guys...
