Montgomery State Fishing Lake — Local services in Independence

Stopped for an overnight in our truck camper while heading to Texas and it couldn’t have been better. Well maintained gravel roads and little to no trash. We were here mid October and were the only ones. Lots of circle drives to pull in and camp at or fish from. Loved hearing all the birds, watching the deer, seeing water turtles, and watching the fish jump. Close to an asphalt road, but little to no traffic while we were there (Wednesday). Beautiful! Thank you Kansas for providing the fishing lakes! Be advised, no toilets or drinking water available in the NW area...

Pretty quiet area. There were some fisherman in boats and from the shore. At night there was a little loud music and partying going on the south shore, but not past 10 PM. While there is lot's of natural beauty here, trash can be seen every where: camp fires are started anywhere, plastic bottles and packages are everywhere, even found a firing harness in my stone fire ring. The Park is so clean and we'll kept! Am so grateful Montgomery County State Lake is close to home. A peaceful place to hike, fish or just enjoy nature. Have taken disabled friend's there on several occasions and they absolutely loved it. Easy access to fishing on the bank or on the dock's. The fish that we catch are always healthy.
