Stone Canyon Golf Club is a diamond in the rough. Located on the Independence/Blue Springs border, it is certainly full of some surprises for the area it's located in.
Designed as a landfill reclamation project, you will find some great topographical features that you simply won't find on too many other courses on the metro. Things like major elevation changes, natural stone walls, and canyons exist throughout the course.
The fairways are fairly wide, rolling, and are kept in amazing shape. Even though the course has sparse bunkers and zero water hazards, don't let this fool you in to thinking it's easy, because it isn't. The course is still very challenging due to course topography.
Finally it's the only course in the metro that I know openly does dynamic tee time pricing (normally you have to go through a 3rd party to get this). Stone Canyon GC is continually adjusting it's own tee times based on weather, demand, etc. This allows for some really great deals to be found out here. I recently played for $25 including cart.
My only disappointments were that the upper tee boxes were closed and the club house is pretty no frills (its a double-wide trailer). I would also think this course could be improved with more bunkers and a couple water hazards...
Read moreThe course at Stone Canyon Golf Club is in excellent shape, with top-notch fairways and greens that make it an absolute blast to play. The quality of the course itself is truly outstanding, and I would have loved to make this a regular spot for my golf outings.
However, my experience with the front desk staff, particularly a gentleman named Kellen, has been nothing short of disappointing. On both occasions that I played here within the past year, Kellen was extremely rude and disrespectful. His attitude towards customers is unacceptable and leaves a sour taste, which overshadows the otherwise fantastic experience the course offers.
What's more, when I spoke to the starters and a few other employees, they agreed with my concerns about Kellen’s attitude, confirming that this is not an isolated issue. It’s unfortunate that such a great course is tarnished by poor customer service at the front desk.
Until the management addresses this issue, I’m hesitant to return, which is a shame given how much I enjoy the...
Read moreThis is a true gem of a course in the KC area. You basically need a cart because there are lots of extreme hills and some long drives between holes, but that’s the only negative.
This course is awesome. So many unique and cool holes, I can’t wait to go back and try again. Great conditions. Something for everyone.
I was enjoying playing the holes so much, I didn’t even take any pictures. Pictures don’t really capture what you see with your eyes due to all the topography. Forced carries. Point to point shots. Risk/reward shots. The course has it all.
I could play Stone Canyon again and again and I doubt I’d ever get tired of it. It’s not just one of my favorite KC courses, it’s one of my favorite courses I’ve ever played. Probably top 10 of the 500+ courses I’ve played. I’d have to think about it, but it’d be up there.
Great job Stone Canyon. So much fun I can’t wait...
