I hadn't been to this winery for a year and it has went from a 5⭐️ to I probably won't revisit unfortunately Every wine that was sampled to my friend and I (me a dry wine drinker and my friend a sweet wine drinker) was served room temperature which does not do anything for a white wine. I asked the girl working behind tasting bar several different questions and all her answers were "I don't know". They only thing she really said a full sentence to was that "when people are unsure which wine to purchase she steers them to any of the 3 Lafayettes since they are the cheapest" After our tasting was finished I asked why they all were served at room temp, her reply was, " they are chilled until we open then we pull all the wines out of and put along bar so we don't have to walk back and forth the fridge" :( :( so unless you get there as soon as they open you will never get to taste any white or sweet wine of theirs chilled :( My friend and I both wanted to have a glass or two and have some cheese and crackers so she bought a bottle out of their cooler since we both were wanting wine to be cold and we were told there is no ice there. She was sitting down just starting to enjoy her glass and I brought up to counter a bottle of dry wine since I didn't want to share sweet wine with her and was told they couldn't open that bottle cause only one bottle per two people. I told the girl that if the wine was cold we would have just had glasses and she said wine was just pulled out of fridge this morning (2 pm when we were there) I was also told by girl that "you said you've been here before" and when I had been there in the past when was always serve chilled so this was something new to me. Unfortunately the reason I have to keep same girl is because when we walked in we were not even introduced to her by her name she never talked to us or anything during tasting? And I responded yes but that was a cpl hours ago and is no longer chilled. So my friend that I brought from Illinois to this winery had to have her bottle of wine re-corked and we left without spending any other money in the establishment. Very sad to see a winery that me and my family and friends used to enjoy so much go...
Read moreHad a birthday party for my dad this past Saturday and it was just perfect. We loved the options of tasting, flight and buy a bottle... and we really liked the setup of having the option of local cheeses and sausage with the variety of crackers to purchase individually as opposed to ordering like you would from a kitchen. There was a hiccup in communication over a reservation for the back porch I thought I made over the phone 3-4 days prior... the women working on Saturday afternoon were flexible and very accommodating, thinking on their feet with the last minute surprise as to not disrupt anyone's experience, handling it with grace and class. It all worked out and we had a wonderful time! Good time + good people + environment + hiccup = any other good ol family gathering! Thank you for ALL of it haha
Oh yeah, and although we are not necessarily sweeter wine drinkers (usually cab and other darker reds), we totally enjoyed the flavor profile and body of their wines. One couple in my party doesn't drink wine and never been to a winery, but they reported they had a positive, non-intimidating experience and wished they took a bottle of...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised at the variation of wines available. Other wineries I have been to have not had such a great selection, but WIldcat Creek Winery had a unique and varied selection. I started out with a tasting - the women helping us were so friendly. They were also very informative about the wine and they got me to try different ones that I would not normally try. Got me out of my comfort zone! :)
My go-to is red wine. My favorite one at Wildcat was the Prophet's Rock Red. It had a great taste and a nice finish. I also tried a cherry pie wine (can't remember the exact name) but you are given two small chocolate pieces to go with it and it is a little bit of a sweeter wine, and it tasted just like chocolate covered cherries. Very tasty!
Prices were extremely reasonable. As I said before, the staff was very inviting and welcome. They made my experience great.
Overall, I had a great time. We sat outside and enjoyed a couple of glasses. They also have a cute little gift shop inside. If I'm ever in the Lafayette area again, I will...
